Our friends over at Kentucky’s own Willett Distillery have one kind of barrel: wood. And they put two things in them: Bourbon and Rye. We were fortunate enough to get some of their Bourbon barrels, and we put a special coffee-fied version of our Imperial Stout in them.

Bottle @ Eriks Noob Tasting. Dark brown with brown foam. Spirit heavy with loads of whiskey, punch, arrak, cocoa, coffee and wood. Packs a big punch but is seriously tasting like whiskey. Unbalanced is an understatement.

Bottle from Systembolaget, vintage 2019. (thanks Eddan) Black with a small tan head. Sweet with coffee, oak, bourbon and chocolate. The body was full and the finish with some warming alcohol.

Mycket gott.

A new version of this brew, the 2019 vintage I have, time to get current folks. 12.4% abv and a different label, I would send in a new picture but half the time it does no good. I purchased a four pack at The Cellar in close-by Odessa, I'm drinking my first one tonight in a snifter. Before I even pour I get a delightful whiff of dark chocolate and berry. The liquid is sable black with a thin rim of generally tan bubbles. Straightforward until the taste, wow, is it nice. Baking chocolate, the coffee works it way through, licorice, caramel, sour dough bread and dark plum. A firm bitterness and a bit of a burn. A high level imperial stout.

Bottle pour from a trade with johnnnniee--thanks, John! Appearance is opaque black with initial cascade of carbonation and a 2-finger creamy foam beige head (reminiscent of a nitro pour) with good retention, light sparkle at the edges of the glass and full coating of sudsy lacing. Aroma is strong rye barrel, roasted malt and dark fruit. Taste is strong rye barrel, chocolate, dark fruit--strangely, very little coffee, if any. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with thin, silky texture, soft carbonation, mild alcohol bite and moderate warmth, and finish as taste. Overall, great look and feel and, while the aroma and flavor are delicious, the barrel is a little high in the mix, overpowering the base beer and I'm getting virtually no coffee, so that's weird. Very good and almost amazing.
