This bold style of beer was developed to travel from London to St. Petersberg, surviving months at sea and freezing temperatures. 'Duke's' strong roast character and high alcohol content are typical of the style, however we have collaborated with our neighbours, Dropworks rum, to add molasses during fermentation. Liquorice, treacle, and dark bitter coffee flavours are at the fore, with raisin sweetness and dark chocolate giving balance.

Bottle. Welbeck Farm Shop. Best sausages ever. Black in the glass. Messy leggy beige foam. Mentions molasses have been added to this. Well, they’re not kidding. There’s some vine fruit and roast malt but mostly it’s a mess of sticky smoky ashtray molasses nonsense. Jesus how much went in? Can’t be arsed. Hard work.
