Sample at Bob's Bar. Dark brown pour with a medium khaki head that dissipates steadily to a film. Small patches of lace. Roasted malt, nuts and coffee in the nose. Light to medium body with flavors of chocolate malt, toasted nuts and coffee. The finish is roasty with a nutty and malty aftertaste. Above average overall.

12 oz. can. Pours black, with a big, frothy, tan head. The aroma is bitter chocolate, caramel, leather, and a bit of cherry and herbs. Sweet and yeasty, with a mild bitterness. Medium body, with a creamy, thick, and surprisingly sharp palate. This is a clean, flavorful, and smooth lager. Nice!

12 ounce can from Woodmans Oak Creek, 11/7/18. Very dark brown, large frothy tan head, good retention. Aroma of chocolate, roast, nuts, a bit of caramel. Even a tad bit of smokiness. Taste is smoke, roast, chocolate, hints of dark fruit. A bit thin, sadly. Otherwise quite nice.

12 oz. can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, some nuttiness, and a hint of caramel. Flavour is along the same lines, with toasted caramel, toasted nuts, and light caramel. Nicely robust, with a dry nutty finish. Good stuff.

Black body with off white head. Malt and light grass aroma. Malty, bready body with a tip of the tongue hop tinge.

On draft at Trio in Kill Devil Hills, NC. Pours a clear dark cola with a tan head. Aromas of chocolate and pecans. Flavors are moderate bitter roast with a bit of tobacco smokiness. Very nice.

Wow, there are more different entries for this beer on Ratebeer than there are on Untappd! Dark clear brown color, tan head. Aroma of toasted brownies. Taste has cocoa and coffee, light toast. Good body. Tasty

Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is a decent minor char and roasted cocoa. Flavor is again a decent roast and bitter bakers chocolate with a dry almost dusty mouthfeel. I commend this brewer for making a schwartzbier for a anniversary beer. Not enough brewers stick to the classics.

Can: Charred oak nose. Mahogany, thick tan head. Charred oak, toast, heavily roasted grain, subtle raisin. Medium body, easy carbonation.
