This sour ale aged on whole muscadine grapes is a collaboration between Allagash Brewing and Brockton Beer. Julian, Head Brewer at Brockton, had the idea to use this native grape—historically cultivated by enslaved laborers in the American south—to honor the history of Black winemakers in America. We sourced the grapes from Dr. Darlene Williams, owner of Roberts Vineyard, who specializes in cultivating muscadines.
Notes of concord grape, apricot, and plum fill this dry, and tart, blush-colored ale.
Grains: Local Vienna Malt, Local Pale Malt, Local Oats, Rye Malt, Raw White Wheat, Base Malt Blend
Hops: Hallertau
Yeast: House, Lactobacillus, Pediococcus
Special Ingredients/Processes: Aged on Muscadine Grapes from Roberts Vineyard

Plum and maybe wine barrel. Pours orange-pink hazy with decent head and lacing. Some grape. Light tart finish. Soft session but nice. Snally.

375mL bottled Dec 2024, drunk 7/16/25.
Clear, rich bronze-copper. Small, butter-colored head sits at light cover.
Mineral-rich grape with rounded, mellow acidity, deep malts and plentiful fruitiness. Hint of toast and light caramel, but it doesn't distract from the fruit or yeast/bacteria.
Soft and juicy, very carbonated with a bit of toasty Vienna-malt structure. Biscuit and fruity with juicy grape and lingering saccharine character (I think that's also the grape). Cleans up as it breathes, with soft, juicy grape galore and soft Belgian yeast. Very easygoing, drinkable stuff with good balance, body and dryness on the finish.
