Description
The Alhambra Brewery was founded in 1925 by Carlos Bouvard, owner of the malt house La Moravia in Barcelona, and Antonio Knörr, from a family with a long beer tradition. Until 1954, this would remain a small brewery with only 20 employees, a subsidiary of the malt house in Barcelona. In that year, the Damm brewery takes a majority stake in the company and the Granada plant begins its steady growth. In 1979 Damm S.A. reorganizes Cervezas Alhambra, and Cruzcampo acquires a minority stake in the company. In 1999, Cervezas Alhambra became, thanks to the purchase of the Cordoban brewer of, among other things, the beer Mezquita, the largest brewer in Andalusia. In 2006 the company was bought by the Grupo Mahou-San Miguel, the largest beer company in Spain, of which it is still part today.
