In 1887 the breweries of Karl Kürschner & Co. and the Gfirm of the Bohring Brothers were combined into the Vereinsbrauerei Apolda AG, and thereby the foundation for today's private brewery was laid. In 1952, during the GDR era, the brewery was renamed VEB Vereinsbrauerei Apolda and in 1969 incorporated into the VEB Getränkekombinat Erfurt. After the reunification, the brewery was privatized in 1991 and has been in private hands again since then.
