In 1681 (the first year of Tenwa), Yahachiro, a descendant of Hara Jinzo, founded a sake brewery while working as a village headman. This was the birth of Chikuma Nishiki. The brewery was called Yoshidaya, and its name became well-known in the surrounding area.
