Description
Sagene Bryggeri is a microbrewery at Sagene in Oslo, Norway. The brewery was established in 2013, in central Oslo on the banks of Akerselva river. The brewery is located in the venerable premises in the former Hjula Veveri, that once housed weavers that created woven fabrics for the population of Oslo.

We have unassuming enough as an ambition to become "Oslo beer." To achieve this, we produce the craft beer in our premises at Sagene. In addition, we have entered into a long-term collaboration with Arendal's brewery for the production of Sagene lager beer for grocery chains, as well as Vinmonopolet bottle shops, bars and restaurants. From 2024 all beers are brewed by Arendals.

500ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Frothy white head dissipating over a cloudy orange coloured body. Spotty lacing. Aroma of pine and lemony hops. Flavoured with mandarin, lemon, mild caramel and earth follow by a mid-dry bitter tail. The taste profile is slightly overrun by a very soft palate. (Tromsø 08.09.2016).

Gyllen brun farge med hvitt skum. Lukter svakt av maltsødme. Medium karbonert. Noe vannete i munnfølelse. En helt ordinær lager. Mild bitter avslutning.

0.33l bottle. This is a mild cloudy, darker golden Almost a little copper colored one with a small quickly sidesticking and shattered off-white filmy head. It smells pretty bad actually. As metallic lagerish as they come. In addition it's shockingly grainy. Like putting your nose in a old rusty metal grain silo. Not my kind of nose at all, and imo nothing to do with America. It taste a little better. It has this mild dark malty sweetness in addition to all that horrible metallic off-flavor. Feels thin and oily in the mouth and it's just below average on the carbonation. Soft vegetal, a little bit of pepper. Really watery tail. Nah, I must admit that I did not expect to enjoy this, and I'm kinda glad I didn't. 15.07.2016

330ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Sentrum Tromsø. A clear golden-brown body under a remaining pearl white head. Crocheted lacing. The appearance was the best part of it. Grainy malts on the nose, hints of meat and vegetables. Vague caramel flavours, hints of leafy hops added by an input of vegetables towards the ending. Drinkable, however a bit out of tune (Tromsø 25.06.2016).

500ml bottle from Meny Oslo City. Pours an off-white head reduced to a filmy layer. Poor lacing. Hazy amber-orange coloured body. Distant aroma of grassy hops. Taste of ripe oranges and apricot, mild malty sweetness beneath. Hints of fruity bitterness to the ending. Okay, has not got so much to offer (Hotel room, Oslo 15.06.2016).

330 ml bottle. After a lot of negative fuzz around Sagene Brewery I decided to concentrate on taste this one with an open mind as my first sample from the actual brewery and not the Arendal licensed versions. The body is crystal clear dark golden with a big off white head that disappears quite fast. Very light in the nose with hint of caramel malt and some cooked vegetables. The flavor is quite sweet with caramel malt and rather harsh metallic bitterness. Not very pleasant at all. Medium body and mostly unpleasant aftertaste. I really tried to finish this, but it’s simply not possible, too unpleasant. Would probably never spend any more money on this brewery again.
