A rare beer. From a bottle, directly. Not a pilsner, probably a heller er something like that, not a pilsner. Yes, a little sweet on the uptake, almost cloying at times. Certainly nit a pilsner. Finish is a little difficult at times. Not impressed. Way too much personality. Some co2 in there but just barely leads to a mouth coating experience.

From a bottle, quite strong and sweetly rude. Certainly has more personality than I was expecting for this bewer. Definitely the most over the top beer I’ve had from straub. If you are a fan of the well mannered easy going regular straub, better not try this. Cloying at times. Straus has gained the ability to be insulting as any other micro brewer. What’s next? Straub double IPA, wew. I think to myself, "not impressed" as I reach for a bottle of real straub.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a dark golden color with a large creamy yellow-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy sugar and vague candied fruits. The flavor was sweet, tangy, yeasty and light golden fruits. Medium length tangy golden fruits and yeast finish. Moderately full bodied. Pretty tasty.

12 ounce bottle from Barley and Hops. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A sweet caramel and malty nose. A smooth nice flavor, very clean, sweet fruity malts, some yeast and light metallic finish. Good. Some bubblegum in the finish.

Well, I didn’t buy this earlier because I thought it was still the straub light just relabeled but when I had it at the Bocktwon, I knew it was not the same old lady. Nice looking darker brew, but not really ’red’. Has a slaggy smell about it. Taste is freindly, much better than many domestic alts. Yes, freindly and easy, goes down without any negative beer attitudes. There is a tad of bitterness but its just enough to let you know its an alt. Good overall beer drinken experience.

Catch up rating from notes, 2012: Case picked up at brewery while rolling through Northern PA. Brewery tour also pulls one of the line for you prior to capping and labelling. How's that for fresh? Pale golden, but clear, foamy head sticks around for a bit. Aroma is sweet malts, but very fresh and crisp. Taste is also kind of sweet, big on the grainy flavor, hint of hops finishes it. That case disappeared fast, there are benefits to being super fresh.

Bottle. Lactic barley malt aroma. Pale yellow with small head. Tap water with hint of malt and hay hops. A bit of flavor - not much but luckily not horribly unpleasant.

Review from notes, beer sampled 8/12/2011 I had this in a bottle in a bar in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania while visiting my wife’s mom. I’d never heard of this brewery so now was the time to try it. Pours a deep copper reddish brown with a decent sized white creamy head. Smells of lightly toasted and bready malt with hints of caramel and very faint spicy hops. Taste is smooth lager like and easy to drink. Lightly bready toasty caramel malt with barely enough spicy hops to keep it from being cloying. Medium body and carbonation level with a smooth slick mouthfeel. Decent enough macro style lager, but certainly nothing to go out of your way for.

An amber lager with a thin off white head. In aroma, faint caramel with light wet dog. In mouth, a roasted barley oatmeal, chalky, boring. On tap at PA Flavor, April 9th, 2011.
