The Trestle Inn, Philadelphia tap ($6): Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is a lot of medium-roasted coffee, chocolate, and some hops. Taste is similarly roasted and bitter... well not too bitter, but really full-flavored in its roasty aspects. Some underlying chocolate. Medium body. Nice. This was a sipper for me.

12oz bottle pours a very murky orange with some thin, white head. Nose is mostly orange and pine sap, some grapefruit, some soap, some malt, candy sugar. Flavor has a huge punch of bitter grapefruit, blood orange, lemon, very sticky pine sap, herbal soap, honey comb. Sticky, bitter finish. Heavy.

12oz bottle pours a hazy gold with some sudsy white head. Nose is harsh citrus, some soap, some pine, some grass, but mostly just dried citrus zest. Flavor is lightly sweet, lightly grassy, some Meyer lemon, some pine. Clean finish. Not bad. Simple.

Bottle, thanks to JStax. Pours a flat caramel color with minimal head. No real lacing. The nose is sweet and citrus filled at first with a lighter floral presence. Some resin. Sweet taste is citrus and caramel malt. Not bitter at all, but has good hop flavors. Refreshing, but relatively unexciting.

Bottle, courtesy of JStax, thanks. Deep straw colored pour, hints of orange. Nice fluffy white head and lots of sticky lacing. Good retention throughout. Nose of citrus and florals, albeit a bit faded. Some caramel malt too. Nice hops flavor of citra and herbal florals, but overshadowed by the caramel malt. Few ratings at this point and it looks like I’m against the grain a bit, but it drinks pretty well.

Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joe’s this beer poured a dark amber-tan color with a medium sized foamy white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was tangy ans sweetish with faint vague fruity hops. The flavor was tangy, bitter and off - almost a touch rancid with leafy fruity hops, pepper and sour caramel. Long tangy bitter and off with lingering leafy hops. Medium body. Meh.

Sample at the Hills Market beer tasting on 08/22/2013. Pours a brownish-black color with a medium foamy tan head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and hops. Medium-bodied with a roasty character and flavors of chocolate malt, hops and a bit of anise. The finish is malty up front with a resiny hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap at the rivertowne Irwin. No real noticeable aroma. Looks like yer typical pale beer. thin scummy head. First taste makes you think there is gonnah be lots of co2 but it turns out to be some kinda biting flavor in there. Unique in taste but not toofar off from what we know to be beer. Yes that bting thing, which is not sour, keeps sizing up the palate. Finish is medium dull hops, even tho I see they don’t use hops to flavor this. Yes, the spruce and molasses do give it a hop effect, interesting to note. . Cannot detect much spruce inthere. Overall, I would say this a typical good apa, but now I see this is listed as a traditional ale style. Probably a little more personality than the typical trad. Can’t touch east end kvass or penssyltucky . nor does it come close to Darbyste.
