Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks David Cohen. Black-colored, not completely opaque. Aroma of whiskey, some soy sauce, alcohol, acetone, cork and rye. Sweet flavor with light acidic notes, rye, whiskey, wood, a bit of chocolate and a drier finish. Medium-full-bodied. It seems like the stout character is hiding behind all the whiskey and rye. Pretty weird and not thick enough, but not so bad.

Sampled on daft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark orange-caramel color with a small foamy white head that left good lacing. The aroma was tangy pine, orange and light caramel. The flavor was tangy moderate pine, light grapefruit, light orange and faint notes of caramel, toffee and nut. The finish was long and tangy pine. Fairly full bodied. Solid.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a medium caramel-brown color with a medium sized very creamy off-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was dryish with spicy and floral hops. The flavor was bitter and a touch harsh with notes spicy and floral hops and a faint herbal presence followed by light toasted caramel. Medium length bitter finish with notes of caramel and hops. Medium body. Decent.

Sample at the Big Tap In on 04/21/2012. This brew pours a clear orange-amber color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops and citrus. Medium body with a citrus and tropical fruit character that has alpha hops and malt underneath. The finish is fruity with a short hoppy aftertaste. Above average overall.

Sample at the Big Tap In on 04/21/2012. Flat black pour with a medium tan head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and oak. Full-bodied with a woody character and flavors of chocolate malt, toasted bread and hops. The finish is rich and malty with a touch of spiced hops left behind. Pretty good overall.

Bottle thanks to hopdog. Pours a dark red brown color with a medium mocha head. A sweet nose of caramel, vanilla. The flavor is sweet vanilla, fruit, light rye. Very sweet, little balance but nice. For the abv this should be much bigger, i dont mean alcohol strenght but robustness. Good though.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick, black and oily with a large creamy very dark brown head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was sweetish toasty malts, dark fruit, vanilla and faint floral hops. The flavor was bitter with a coffee presence and notes of anise, whiskey, vanilla and cocoa. A bit hot. The finish was long length and bitter with lingering roasty coffee. Full bodied and smooth. Quite nice.

Roasty dark chocolate malty, acidic coffee flavor leads to a tangy tart fruitiness. Light nuttiness. The coffee flavor is a little messed up which kind of ruins the beer. I’d like to try it again if they get this figured out.
