Description
In 1356, with the decree of the Golden Bul by Emperor Charles IV, the cities in the Holy Roman Empire, including Wittichenau, were granted the right to brew beer. The beer was largely brewed in private, business and trading houses. In Wittichenau a common brewery was founded in 1435, this is considered as the year of foundation of the brewery. In 1940 the brewery was acquired by Eduard Glaab. It is the oldest private brewery in Saxony and has been run as a family business by the Glaabs for three generations now.

Clear straw-yellow colour, large white head. Grainy, malty with hints of cornflakes, hoppy finish.

2l-bottle. Looks really good. Beer in the glass very zippy, nice head. Starts mild, malty, quite dry. More and more sourish without being too much. Mild bitterness in the background. Finish well balanced, malty-grasy. Really nice!

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass almost black, small head. Starts very sweet and very fruity like cherries. Modest malty, very mild. Tastes too much like cherry juice.

Bottle looks okay. Beer in the glass very dark, almost black. Starts mild, modest malty, not too dry. Very sweet like sugar. Finish still mild, almost washy. Nothing special.

Bottle looks very simple, almost like a cheap beer. Beer in the glass very dark, almost black. Nice head. Starts mild-malty, modest roasty, fine fruity. Soft-malty finish, fine hints of chocolate. Well balanced and quite drinkable. I liked it!

Bottle looks very simle, almost like a cheap beer. Beer in the glass zippy, small head. Starts very malty-spicy, a bit wheaty. Soft and mild finish, still fine malty. Modest sweet. Quite drinkable. Nice!

Bottle looks good. Beer in the glass okay, small head. Starts mild, but quite spicy and really unbalanced. Metallically and dry. Finish a bit better, but still too spicy. Not my favourite.

Bottle looks good, beer in the glass also. Starts very, very spicy, quite grasy, modest hoppy-dry. Quite unbalanced and not really drinkable. Gets better in the end, but its simply too spicy.
