Purchased at Binny’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed after a good work week, first Friday I’ve had at home in a long time. Since I used to go to school w/ this guy, and he was a nice guy, I figured I’d try out this brew that bears his family name (see what I did there...). Sorry but this beer just sucks. When I opened the bottle, foam exploded out and I had to let it sit for about a minute before it started to calm down. Appearance is a cloudy moderate gold with an annoyingly large while head. Aroma of clove, wheat, ale yeast. Taste is very carbonated, goes down like sparkling water, tastes somewhat like a Belgian wheat which is a bit odd. I’m not a fan, good guy, but a bad brew.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a dark, slightly cloudy amber with almost no head. Aroma of caramel malt and a good bit of dank herbal hops with a little medicated band-aid. Taste is light bitter. Band-aids, herbal and pine hops with a somewhat weak malt backbone. Medium bodied with a slick texture. Lively carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, pretty good. Probably one of the most flavorful steam beers I’ve had.

Pour is a copper with a small white head. Aroma is a citrus hop. Flavor is more of that citrus hop with a minor caramel malt backbone. Not a world beater IPA but it has plenty of hop flavor with some chewy malts in the backround. Better than the rating on here.

Single bottle from Binny’s. Pours a big bubbly head in a narrow 312 glass. Slightly spicy American Wheat smell. Taste has a bit of umami to it, later on I get a note of ale fruitiness. Mostly European hops, I think, with a finish of American cones. Small amount of sediment on the bottom gives the last inch or two in the glass a lot of floaties and a slight yeasty character. I find it pleasant.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with a slightly amber hue and a brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts with a bit of coffee and backing dark grains that have a hint of sweetness. Flavor has a good amount of dark grains with a hint a bit of creamy coffee and a bit of dryness in the finish.

Pour is a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma is a nice caramel malt base with a nice hop follow up. Flavor is a nice hop resin with some caramel malt and sweet black bread. Probably the most flavorful "steam" beer and includes the original from Anchor.

Enjoyed at the Blind Robin in Chicago, IL with some friends. The bartender opened this up because we were complaining about the 5 Rabbit beer we purchased, he said he liked this one much more. I didn’t take notes, but from what I remember it was a solid Oktoberfest brew, pretty standard, mostly malty and pretty smooth. Not bad, I may try a bottle again sometime soon.

12oz bottle. Filtered orange-tan. Thin, patchy head. Some resinous orange pine hops in the aroma. Sandy mouthfeel, quite nice and hop forward. A really well done California Common, could go head to head with Anchor. Medium to full bodied, with a nice chewy, toasty malt body. Excellent balance. Well done.

12oz bottle. Amber-brown. Big, intense beige head. Fruity, piny aroma, some faint cinnamon coughy syrup which gets worse and worse the more it warms.. Maybe this is infected, but tastes like a hoppy amber to me. Bitter, slightly soured, overcarbonated. Not bad per se, but hardly good. I take it back...bad. Infected for sure. Sorry guys.
