Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a black color with a small foamy brown head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was strong toasted vanilla, bourbon and cream. The flavor was bitter, astringent and fusel with vanilla, cream, artificial sugar, egg white and buttercream. Long buttercream and vanilla finish. Medium body. Very off and disappointing.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a murky yellow-amber color with a medium sized creamy white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was tangy, tart and a bit sweet with golden fruits, sugar, lemon and touches of phenol and bubblegum. The flavor was tangy and sweet with sugar, orange, lemon, chamomile and bread and a faint undertone of bubblegum. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied. Interesting.

On tap at the bocktown. Sweeter perfumey aroma. Typical pale yellow beer looks. First taste is unique leathery light ale. Yes, honey in there fer sure but it comes across almost cloying at times. Never the less its not too bad going down the gullet. Interesting back of throat feel on this one fer sure. Can’t find much mead attributes here tho.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a hazy yellow-gold color with a large foamy yellow-white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was strong with very tart and tangy citrus, sweetness, brett, bread and bubblegum. The flavor was tart, very sour and dry with notes of chalk, citrus, bubblegum and a bit of brett. Very long finish that turns a bit astringent. Medium body. Odd but interesting.

OK, so I hope this is in the right place, had this at bocktown today in monaca on tap but it just said Church Brew Works Doppel Bock. A darker beer. Not hazy. Smells just plain beery good and fresh. Fairly flat at first. Decent roasty taste for a doppel or a bock. Well behaved, probably one of the better bocks I’ve had, doppel er not. Easy yes again well behaved, friendly over all fer a dble! . Pretty good, fer sure. Hides its 8% well, U’d think it was more like 5.5%.

I thought Justin was the coolest person in the world, but any who.....on tap at the bocktown. The best out of 7 I drank. Nice job CB! Mild easy fun. No real pepper in the smell or in the taste. Just gentle easy nice beer experiences. Nice to have a beer that’s not laden with hops. Cool refreshing. Kind easy finish, very lovely real beer experience.

Sample from cask at the Big Tap In on 05/31/2014. Cloudy brown pour with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Roast malt, chocolate and rye in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of chocolate malt, earthy hops and mildly spicy rye. The finish is sweet with a roast malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Split a 12oz bottle. Poured a nice light yellow golden color with a small white head. Aroma was notes of grass, sweet malts, light malt notes. Pretty tasty - crisp and pretty enjoyable. Liked this one a lot.

Sampled from a growler this beer poured a black color with a large foamy tan head that left decent lacing. The aroma was gritty fruity hops, a bit of pine, a bit medicinal and had a touch of tropical fruits. The flavor was bitter, tangy and malty with floral and fruity hops up front followed by a medicinal note and a bit of tropical fruits. Medium length bitter and tangy finish with floral and fruity hops lingering. Medium body. More of a black IPA in profile and those just never seem to work for me.
