Description
Bastone first opened its doors in May of 2004. It is named and styled after the famous Belgian city (though the spelling has been simplified). This unique restaurant and brewery is housed in a 1930’s era building, the exterior of which has been restored to it’s original art deco look in association with the State of Michigan Historical Society. Inside, the high arched ceiling, wood floors and white subway wall tiles create the comfortable yet sophisticated atmosphere of a European brasserie.
Admin Note: Taproom and restaurant are now run by Jolly Pumpkin, but Bastone beers can be found in the Jolly Pumpkin Royal Oak location. Bastone still brews in the brewery attached.

Dark brown to black beer under a huge dense, dark-cream head. Bit of diacetyl coming through? Little saltiness, and further some dark malts. Clear dark malts, bit of chocolate, or chocobeans. Slick MF, nearly oily. This beer is far from unnice, but to use dark malts in a Saison is in fact a contradictio in terminis.

Old rating from an festival. Poured black with a gray head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of dark grains and dark chocolate with a hint of bourbon. Flavor was dark chocolate with a slight licorice note and some bourbon coming out in a slightly thin finish.
