Wow... I was not expecting much from this fruit porter, after having the Barley Days Yuletide Cherry Porter a year ago, and not really enjoying the mix between porter and fruit (cherry). This time, it’s blackberries, and it seems to work much better. This beer pours a dark brown, but not black, and has red highlights. Its head is nice and creamy, tanned, has great retention even staying all along, coating the brew and lacing all over. Fresh blackberry smell with some dark malt in the background and hints of butterscotch. Beautiful mouthfeel that refreshing, but not too watery and oily, with a little dryness in the end. The fruit is present in the taste, but very well-balanced with notes of roasted malt, caramel malt, coffee and molasses. This beer is so well-brewed, I really enjoyed it and would love to have some in cellar.

650mL bottle, pours dark reddish brown. Aroma of English hops and caramel malts. Flavour is essentially the same, beginning with the malts and finishing with very English-pronounced hops. Very solid.

Bottle: Poured a medium black color stout with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light dry roasted malt notes with some notes clear notes of maple which are surprisingly quite enjoyable. Taste is also dominated by loads of maple notes with well balanced sweetness and some dry roasted notes. Body is a bit thin for style with some very good carbonation. Very interesting experiment with maple notes being clearly identifiable and some well balanced sweetness. Not sure I would have this often but well brewed nonetheless.

Bottled, from Kimberley, BC. Near black, rich head. Unsurprising aroma of blackberry and coffee. Midsweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel and medium body. Some salty tar mingls with the blackberry jam im a mid-bitter finish. Would probably have worked better with a more chocolatey flavour instead of coffee and tar.

355mL can, pours dark copper with a big beige head. Piney hops on the nose with a caramel malt backing. Flavour of sweet caramel and piney hops - not complex, but the singular taste is quite nice. Decent IPA.
