Draught at the Yokohama GJBF 2012. Black with lace. Nose is a bit of berry-phenols, charcoal, coffee. Flavor is a little funky, berry, chocolate, cocoa. Not very interesting, a little bit off seeming.

Draught at the Craft Beer Festival in Ichinoseki, Iwate. Nice deep amber color. Malty caramel aroma with chocolate. Rich caramel flavor, but thin body. Ok fruit with a harsh bitterness in the finish. OK but not so interesting.

Draft at GJBF 2009, Osaka. Honey-like, golden color. Honey, fruity, very sweet. Doesn’t fit the style too well. Too fruity. Ok, but too much honey and fruit. Lacks balance and malt richness, as well as the bock mouth feel.

Draft at GJBF 2009, Osaka. 1999 version. Smooth, sherry-like aroma. Lots of fruity esters, a little alcohol burn. Super smooth in the mouth, but a bit oxidized. Flavor is a bit disappointing. Big, rounded, caramel and fruity, but tastes like it was aged too long.

Hay colored with a firm white head. Aroma is of soft English hops. Slightly earthy, light fruit, and some malty notes. Flavor is similar, enjoyable and understated hops, clean hops, a touch of earth, light hay, and some faint citrus. Refreshing after a long day.

1998 version on draft at Popeyes. Light amber color with a thick creamy white head. Could pass as your average amber ale just based on looks. However, once you get a whiff of the nose you know this goes from ordinary to extraordinary. Cherries, brandy, chocolate, pears, oranges, toffee, caramel nuts. It reminds me of some type of delicious liqueur filled chocolate with a million things going on. I love it!!!! The mouth is very malty with nuts, oranges, chocolate, cherries and rich, but very surprisingly it is extremely light bodied for 12%. The finish is very warming, like sipping a good brandy. The nose is misleading. It would easily get a 19 or 20 if the body had followed through. Still a 16 aint bad. Had this in 2018 for 2003 version. Realized this is way under rated. Gave it a 4.1, but this is clearly at 15 year. Tons of Baijou and dried apricots. Nearly flat. Super flat. 4.6

Gentle English hops give off oranges, apples and brandy in the nose. The body is light, hop accented with spices and apples. The finish is mildly hopped.
