Description
Staropramen Brewery's history begins in 1869 when a corporation was formed on September 6, 1869, The brewery building was completed and beer first brewed in 1871 and the brand name Staropramen, literally meaning “old spring”, was registered in 1911.

Extensive modernization took place from 1933 to 1937 lead by masterbrewer Josef Paspa. The fermentation rooms with cooling vessels and large wooden barrels were replaced with modern steel tanks. In 1933, thanks to its volume of 800,000 hl of produced beer, the brewery became the biggest brewery in Czechoslovakia.

With socialism after the Second World War Staropramen was nationalised. After socialism ended in 1989, the brewery, along with the Braník and Měšťan breweries, became in 1992 part of the Prague Breweries group (Pražské Pivovary), which by 1996 came under control of the Bass company. Bass brought Ostravar into the group in 1997, then in 2000 sold its brewing operations to Interbrew, later AB InBev. In April 2012, Staropramen was bought by Molson Coors

Draught at "Staropramen Naverandach" in Prague. Beautiful cascading effect after poured, needed to sit for a few minutes and wait for it to settle. Clear deep golden color with a thick creamy lasting light beige head with obvious nitrogen effect. Very low scent, though it may be due to the smokey Prague restaurant. Fresh hoppy taste and a Velvet mouthfeel. Rather medium bitterness.6/4/7/4/17=3.8RerateAt a bar in Plzen after the RBESG GT08Nice looking falling out, building up llok. Draugth at Branicky Sklipek in Prague. Dark amber to light brown color, small white head. Huge butterscotch scent, almost like smelling red wine when compared to the Branik 10 I had beside it. More (and better) taste than the bottled version found in Sweden. Medium high bitterness. Lots of diacetyl in the taste as well. Big mouthfeel.

Draught at Branicky Sklipek in Prague. Served in a small 30 cl or a big 50 cl glass (by chice). Light yellow color, small white head. Not much scent, but might be due to the extremely smokey environment. Big body, clear diacetyl/butterscotch flavor. Medium bitterness. Very refreshing, but not a lot of taste other than the butterscotch.Earlier Rating: 2/19/2006 Total Score: 2.8Bottle from the Swedish government owned "Systembolaget".
