Description
Staropramen Brewery's history begins in 1869 when a corporation was formed on September 6, 1869, The brewery building was completed and beer first brewed in 1871 and the brand name Staropramen, literally meaning “old spring”, was registered in 1911.

Extensive modernization took place from 1933 to 1937 lead by masterbrewer Josef Paspa. The fermentation rooms with cooling vessels and large wooden barrels were replaced with modern steel tanks. In 1933, thanks to its volume of 800,000 hl of produced beer, the brewery became the biggest brewery in Czechoslovakia.

With socialism after the Second World War Staropramen was nationalised. After socialism ended in 1989, the brewery, along with the Braník and Měšťan breweries, became in 1992 part of the Prague Breweries group (Pražské Pivovary), which by 1996 came under control of the Bass company. Bass brought Ostravar into the group in 1997, then in 2000 sold its brewing operations to Interbrew, later AB InBev. In April 2012, Staropramen was bought by Molson Coors

Dark brown (Coca Cola) body with a medium lasting beige head. Roast malt and caramel aroma. Flavour is also dominated by malt, but with a clear hop presence.

This lager pours a clear yellow with a short lived white head. First scent is VERY skunky. Damn green bottle. Trying to get through the skunk, it seemed to be like every other lager from this region. A little more richer than the others, this one tastes better. More caramel and a hoppy finish. Not what I expected.

I had never had this one so curiosity got the better of me. Sampled from a 12 oz green bottle ( a sin in my book ) this beer poured a golden amber color with only a trace of a white head. The aroma was sour, malty and tangy. The flavor is sour, lightly malty and finishes even more sour - and not in a good way. The beer is also vaguely skunky. Wholly forgettable. ANY BREWER WHO CONSENTS TO PUTTING THE BEER IN A GREEN BOTTLE SHOULD BE BANNED FROM EVER BREWING AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pours a bright yellow with a small white head. Aroma in mine is skunked. Flavor is weak. Not much to even look for here. Run of the mill euro lager.

Keg
Amber color. Ordinary Vienna, just a bit more caramel than the average; dry and unfortunately metallic.

An amber beer with a beutiful off-white head. The aroma is sweet with lots of hops and grass. The flavor is of caramel with quite a lot of hops and a smooth mouthfeel - nice.

Can with a widget. Sweet malt aroma with hint of hops. Tons of tan head (due to the widget) - dark tan color. Nice malt flavor with bitter finish and very little carbonation - very similar to English canned ales like Tetleys or John Smiths.

Bottle. Flowery malt aroma. Medium yellow clear color with a small collapsing head. Sour malt flavor with a fairly strong hops finish. High carbonation. Okay but a rough finish
