Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to Jackl, 12/05/14. Black with a moderate tan head that retains well. Nose is roast malt, bourbon, dark toffee fudge, chocolate, light charr. Taste comprises dark roast, spice, dark fruit pangs, cocoa powder, subtle BA effect. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a shallow bourbon rinse. Decent enough BA imperial, subtley done, not a huge level of complexity but a nice enough sipper.

Location: Draft at Flying Saucer - Houston, 5/14/14
Aroma: The nose is toffee, caramel, and bready malts, some yeast notes, and fruit
Appearance: Pour a murky dark orange color with a beige head and decent lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same, sweet malts, yeast, and some light bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has an average carbonation, and a decent mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Overall, this is an interesting beer. It wasn't a favorite for me, but they developed some nice flavors. I'm glad to have gotten to try it.

Location: Draft at Flying Saucer - Houston for their (512) Day event, 5/12/14
Aroma: Has some interesting wine and oak notes on the underlying Belgian yeast, fruit, and spice
Appearance: It pours a murky golden-orange color with a fairly thick white/off-white head
Flavor: Taste works similarly, fruity, but not overly sweet, some wine notes, yeast, and mild funk
Palate: The body is medium, it has a higher carbonation level, and a solid mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I liked the way this one worked. They seem to have found a pretty nice balance here between the barrel added components and the underlying beer. Maybe a bit too much carbonation, but this is certainly worth trying.

Location: Draft at Flying Saucer - Houston for their (512) Day event, 5/12/14
Aroma: The aroma is fairly big and roasty, with bourbon, vanilla, and coffee
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a decent sized brown head and plenty of lace
Flavor: The flavor worked really nicely, with just the right amount of bourbon on the base beer
Palate: The body is full, and there is some heat, but not to an overwhelming degree
Overall Impression: I thought this was one of the better example of a bourbon imperial stout that I have had in recent memory. It has a good balance between the bourbon and the underlying beer. Nicely done! I also re-tried the original right after, and I preferred this.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Jack. Pours deep brown with a staunch, foamy beige head. The nose has toasted marshmallow, burnt wood. Medium sweet flavor, some dark fruits, burnt wood, toasted bread. Full bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Lightly warming finish, some tangy dark fruits, milk chocolate. Interesting.

Bottle thanks to Jack. It pours dark brown with a small tan head. The nose nose is rich, roasty, earth, manure, milk chocolate, dirt and earth. The taste is bitter, roasty, tangy, nut, wood, earth, spice, light vanilla, toffee and candy with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Too sweet for my liking. A small pour is enough for me....

Draft - Coffee and nuts. Jet black with a thin beige head. Chocolate, coffee and a light nutty sweetness. Not sure how big pecans play a part but nice.

Location: Draft at BRC, 4/1/14
Aroma: The nose is more roasty than hoppy, some caramel, and light pine notes
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a lighter brown head and some decent lace
Flavor: The flavor is medium sweet, with a good amount of roast, and a light hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a clean, roasty mouthfeel, and a mild dryness
Overall Impression: I thought this example of a Black IPA was just a little bit light on the IPA part of the equation. Still, this is a nice beer.

Bottle - Roast malts and hops. Jet black with a rich white head. Roasty malts with a hop bitterness that dominates to the finish. Although not quite a marriage, it is a hand off from dark to IPA.
