Bottle - Roast malts and hops. Jet black with a rich white head. Roasty malts with a hop bitterness that dominates to the finish. Although not quite a marriage, it is a hand off from dark to IPA.

Draft - Peach and huge tropical fruits. Cloudy orange with a thin beige head. Perfumy and fruity with a light bitterness. Very fruity and fun.

Enjoyed on tap at Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX while watching the new 300 movie, with that weird Eva Green sex scene. Appearance is a rich dark brown with a moderate white head. Aroma is nutty with hints of caramel, malty, sweet and decadent. Taste is great, nice rich porter with great pecan/hazelnut notes. Really nice one here.

Aroma: The nose is roasted malt, coffee, and plenty of chocolate
Appearance: This one pours a dark brown color with a decent sized brown head and mild lace
Flavor: The taste is roasted coffee and chocolate upfront with a pretty peppery finish to it
Palate: This beer has a smooth and creamy feel on the mouth, with a long, spicy finish
Overall Impression: This is a pretty interesting one. I didn't realize I was getting a pepper beer, and the nose and the early part of the flavor didn't lead me that way either, but I get plenty of pepper from the finish.

Texas Mesquite Grill, Katy tap: Pours orange with a white head.Aroma is of grapefruit, and a little bit of pine, coupled with a nice juicy malt backbone. Taste is bitter, but not overwhelmingly. Bitterness is well balanced with the malt. This didn’t drink like a DIPA to me. Tasting blind, I would have thought it was a single IPA. Good though.

2012 bottle. Aroma has a moderate chocolate note with medium high dark fruit character. Medium light bourbon notes. Dark fruit is cherry, plum and prune. Light roast notes. Medium light but character. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a big, medium thick, mocha head that recedes fairly quickly but then a small head lingers throughout. Medium light lacing and moderate legs. Flavor has moderate roast notes with medium light dark chocolate. The fruit character of the aroma is lighter with only hints of dark fruit. Light bourbon character with a moderate nuttiness. Finish has some bourbon and alcohol spice along with some roast malt notes. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium high to high carbonation. Medium low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall an alright beer but it has room for improvement, especially in the mouthfeel category. It is too thin and the overly high carbonation just accentuates this. I’m also not sure I really like the pecan character.

Dark brown color. Sweet malty pecan pie nose. Really smooth and silky. Malty smooth mouth, fairly sweet but enjoyable. Nice. But boozy.

Bottle - Pecan, bourbon and vanilla. Jet black with a stunning brown head. Pecans, big whiskey notes and some chocolate malts. Great for the pecans. Draft - Most of the boldness is lost, almost castrated. Bottle is much better.

Appearance: This one pours a dark brown-black color with a foamy light brown head
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, malt forward, roasted and a little boozy
Palate: The body leans full, with a pretty solid mouthfeel, and a lighter dryness on the finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a decent, but not amazing example of the style. Good effort for sure. In general, I enjoy beers from (512), this is no exception.

Tap. Pours dark brown to black, small brown head, creamy, nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, nutty, ashtray. Flavor about the same, not much pecan. Full body, creamy.
