Thanks to Degarth for opening this puppy.

Pours cloudy cherry red with white to pink foam head. The aroma is tart tartness with a trickle of cherry fruitiness and the slightest yeast note. The flavor starts with sweet and tart cherry fruitiness that leads into a more harsh tartness. Tastes a bit like eating un-ripe cherries. There is also some funk that becomes noticeable about midway. At the finish I start to notice a growing wood essence. The source of the 0.75L bottle is unknowable. This 2006 vintage pours hazy cherry red with copper edges and thin off white head. The moderate aroma has musty fruit notes, dank-ness, cherries and mild tart notes. Lots going on in there. The taste is much the same but more tart than what I noticed in the aroma with un-ripe tart cherries, a bit of sweet ripe cherries and then more notes that were not cherry in nature. Hmm. The aroma seemed much different than the taste and far more complex.

My thanks to Brewfiend for sharing this rare, expensive treat. This beer is pretty awesome. Sour barnyard aroma that includes lots of fruit. This has the acidic aroma of a real lambic. Bright, vibrant red color. Lots of real cherry flavor along with sour acidity, and more barnyard. One of the best fruit beers, or lambics, I have had the chance to try.

Bottle. 75cl. (thx to papsoe) Pours a candyred color, a bit unclear, with a pinkish-white head. Sourness and cherry, with barnyard and horse-blanket in the background. Nice and balanced. The flavor has cherry, sourness and barnyard, leading to a long lemony and cherry finish. Astringent, medium body. A really lovely kriek. (070510)

750 ml bottle. Hazy golden body with a fine white head. Aroma is classic geuze, acidic, fruity, barnyard, horse blanket etc. Same goes for the flavors, refreshing sour, acidic, mould, cellar notes, tart, grapefruit and some bitterness in the finish. It’s a classic geuze with a very fine and balanced expression. Compared with a Cantillon a had earlier it’s a little bit more smooth in my opinion. Regarding what your personal preference will be for a geuze it could be either less or more advantage. I think it’s close to perfection for a geuze. (re-ratet)

375ml bottle@Kristiansand lambic festival. Hazy golden body with a creamy white head. Aroma is acid and sour grapefruit. Flavor is relatively mild acidulous compared to many other geuze. Still sour with a hint of citrus peel and malt! A nice treat and a good place to start for the lambic virgins.

750ml bottle@Kristiansand lambic festival. Hazy red body with a creamy pink head. Aroma is acid, cherry and some kind of fruity sweetness. Flavor is quite sour, vinegar with a definitive cherry touch. This beer manage to be rather sour and sweet at the same time. I had a sample of a really well aged version of this in Brussels some years ago, that one was really well balanced and smooth, just fantastic. I believe this kriek needs a few more years in the basement to stabilize the acid level. Still a classic after only two years.

Re-rated after having another lovley bottle in February 2011.

2002 bottle. Red with a small pink head. Sour cherry aroma with amazing notes of wood and vanilla and band-aid-like funk. Flavour is tart, with sour-cherries and the wood, and with a somewhat sweet wooden aftertaste. 2005 bottle rated with the same comments and numbers.

Pours deep red with a nice pink head that diminished quickly. Aroma is tart cherry, musty, and earth notes. Wow...this is a sour brew! Sour sherry and fruit overwhelms the palate. Some wood notes as well. Well carbonated body. Finishes with a dry sourness. Could use a little sweetness, but this is a great beer as is.
