Es ist etwas wässrig, dennoch bei weitem nicht so wässrig wie man es von amerikanischen Lagern gewohnt ist, außerdem ist es relativ süffig. Ich würde es als gutes Durchschnittsbier bezeichnen. Test vom 19.10.2004, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,8,9,7,11,9 - 8,55

On draught at Pappadeaux in the Houston airport. Glad to finally find this classic Texan beer. Copper-colored with a thin off-white head. Toasted grain and malt in the nose. Medium-bodied with a flavor somewhere between a Bock and an Adjunct Lager. Malt, stale hops and caramel are what the beer offers. The finish is smooth and does not contain much flavor other than some sweet malt. I can’t really call this beer a disappointment because it met my expectations. It does not do the Bock style justice though.

Pours is a very clear yellow with a fizzy head. No real aroma and the flavor is dull and flat. You get some hops and malts in there but again very dull and flat. Not great but better than bud and cheaper too.

Bottle. Dark amber color with a huge off-white head. Light aroma of malt and a hint of earthy spiciness. Slight sulpher finish but otherwise an easy drinking beer. Hint of roastiness.

Pours a copper with a nice red hue to it. The head is small and fizzy. No real aroma and the flavor is a carmel malt. Nothing really to go out and find.

Bottle/tap. Light caramel malt and straw aroma. Brown color with small head. Light caramel malt and lightly bitter straw flavor. Watery palate. (bottled version better than draft). Shiner and Abita were two of the first microbreweries to challenge (quite successfully) the BMC stronghold in the south. Now it could be that I have a more refined palate at this time, but then again, I still like other beers I drank back then (Pilsner Urquell and Franziskaner) just as much and Shiner doesn’t taste nearly as good as it did in the early 90s (at least to me). Still a nice ballpark beer.

Kolsch: the most dangerous style of beer to brew. When you get it right (like Goose Island) you have a perfectly extraordinary and surprisingly complex light ale. When you miss it, you have a bland ale that nobody wants. Where does Shiner Summer Stock land? Perilously in between. They do some things right: the hopping is OK, with indistinct presence in the aroma, a light herbal touch on the palate, a solid bitter finish. The malts are lacking, as is the yeast. The malts come across as very light, hinting at adjuncts, the yeast is much to clean. The carbonation bites and burns at the tip of the tongue. Yellow to faded gold in color, with no head.

Medium brown in color, no head to speak of. Smell definitely leaves something to be desired for... as does the taste. Very watery and almost flavorless. Nothing I'd buy again.

(draught) Mixture of brown, gold and greenish shine, totally clear. Virtually no head left after 30". Malty nose, like German dark malts, bready. Tast is a bit neutral-sweet. Bread-taste is authentic enough. An USA Bock for Germans. Filling without being full-bodied. Alcohol apparent, not overwhelming. It's convincing enough. Why all the bad critics? The manufacturer prejudice?
