Description
The Spoetzl Brewery - named after its original brewmaster Kosmos Spoetzl, was founded in Shiner, Texas in 1909; hence their brand name for their beers - Shiner. Spoetzl is the oldest independent brewery in the State of Texas that began its storied history by brewing beer with old-world traditions and recipes for the many German and Czech settlers in the state. Since then, the brewery has grown to be one of the leading independent brewers in the country. The brewery is 100% family-owned and is a certified craft brewery by the Brewer’s Association. Every drop of Shiner is proudly brewed in Shiner.

Bottled. Pale mustard yellow, cloudy. Soapy, orangey aroma. Softly malty but the soapy hoppiness dominates. Refreshing, but offering nothing extra.

Really more of an American Wheat rather than German - given its clean flavors. Cloudy yellow with thick head which faded maybe a little to quickly given style. Clean and mild aroma - flavor also clean and mild. Mild malt flavors almost zesty. Light bitterness is too much for style. No yeast flavors/effects to speak of - maybe a hint of something herbal. Slight alcohol warming in the finish was unexpected.

1st response: holy crap look how pale this is! Pale gold almost straw color. Nice fizzy, med head though. Noble hop aroma - light spice and floral. Flavor is a combo of floral and bitter notes. Malt is virtually non-existant.

Nut brown. Rather thin, some soft bitterness. Not a bock by any means, but a lot better than the mega lagers.

Nice enough reddish amber, highly fizzy but lacking a head. Nearly bland, somewhat corny, a hint of caramel. Drying finish leaves you unsatisfied. Easier drinking than most macros swills but leaves alot to be desired.

I wouldn't go so far as to call this beer bad, but I wouldn't call it good, either. But it's usually served too damn cold for anyone to tell the difference anyway.
