Bottle. Pours a thick and dark brown body with just a touch of a head that immediately becomes no more than a thin film on the surface. Aromas are of peat, bourbon, anise and a bit of a brown sugar sweetness. First sip reveals a wonderfully silky and full texture and a nice blending of smoke and peat flavors with molasses and brown sugar. Alcohol is readily detectable and the warmth compliments the flavors well. This is nice.

On tap at Dragonmead. Deep red-brown body, dense cream head. Distinctive smoked peat aroma. Creamy, light, peaty body, emphasizing the smoked malts. If anything, this wasn’t brave enough with the smoked characteristics. It felt too watered down.

On tap at Dragonmead. Hazy orange-brown body, thin buff head. Leafy, earthy, light hops nose. Peppery burnt fall leaves body, tannic, with a bitter almost astringent finish (oak leaves come to mind). Toasty malt with subtle sweetness provides a bit of balance.

On tap at Dragonmead. Hazy straw-yellow body, medium off-white head. Light, crisp, grassy nose. Grassy body with light tartness and peppery hops notes. Cerealy, with husky grain roughness.

Clearish fiery orange body, thick cream head. Sweet cerealy, toasty aroma with caramels, grassy hops, and earthy esters. Sweet body with sugared Cheerios, toast, caramel, and brown sugar, backed by grassy, bitter hops. Very nice, with a strong flavor profile and smooth, creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle. Fairly dark pour for an IPA... almost a brown color with a massive bubbly head that has required multiple passes to empty the bottle completely into the glass. Aromas are of caramel malts and citrus hops... grapefruit. Flavor is OK... there is definitely a hops driven lead, but the malt is strong enough to support it and it balances out fairly nicely. That said, the flavor could be a little fuller and more beefy. I won’t say it is watery, but it’s not as full as it should be. Fairly refreshing.
