Description
Our quest for truly great Scottish beer started in 2006 when our brewpub was opened. Ever since then, we have been brewing the finest artisan lagers and wheat beers in the UK. We brew all of our beers in strict accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law of 1516, which we believe is simply the best way to make great beer.

WEST, under the leadership of Bavarian-born Petra Wetzel, is the only UK brewery to officially adhere to the Reinheitsgebot, merging centuries of traditional practice with state-of-the-art equipment. Our German roots are firmly planted in Glasgow and our company ethos can best be summed up as ‘Glaswegian Heart. German Head’.

Bottle picked up at Aldi Inverurie. It pours crystal clear pale bright gold with a thick, foamy white head. The aroma is fresh and grassy, herbal, hay, biscuit malt, touch of spice, grain and a hint of green fruits. The taste is initially dry with a good hit of lingering bitterness, grassy, herbal, spicy, straw, biscuit malt, floral vibes, grain and a touch of green fruit. Average body be and moderate, prickly carbonation. Nice bitterness to it. Fairly simple, but moreish and satisfying.

Bottle from Tesco, Aldershot. Sweet floral citrus aroma with a resinous hoppy punch. Opaque copper gold. Thin creamy white head. Medium bitter. Grainy. An underlying hint of butter that then disappeared. Light-medium bodied. Thin. Slick. Average carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. One noted. Hoppy enough to avoid being bland but not a particularly good beer.

330ml bottle; BB St George's Day 2020 (23rd April). Drank on board a cruise ship off the Silly Isles. Red hue to the deep copper body, wispy head. Caramel esters dominate the nose, the taste is also on the sweet caramel side before the hops kick in with some bitterness and dark berry flavours.

[33cl bottle from Tesco, Warfield.] Belgian style bottle giving an amber pour with a thin cream head; malty aroma with a trace of orange; malty taste to start, then developing a strong herbal bitterness that is not entirely pleasant; leading to a dry resinous bitter finish. Not at all what I was expecting.
