Description
The first written records of the brewery in Protivín date back to 1540. In 1711, it became the property of the Schwarzenberg noble family, where it remained for more than two hundred years. During the Schwarzenberg era, a beautiful brewhouse with copper boilers was built, including an atypical wort pan in the shape of a square, where beer is still brewed to this day. South Bohemian water from its own wells, traditional way of brewing and skills of South Bohemia are for decades the basis of beer brewed here, known under the brand Platan.

In 2008 the brewery became part of the Pivovary Lobkowicz Group.

Draught@Modrý Abbé
Blind tasting. Golden color, good creamy white head. Light lemony hoppy and metallic aroma. Sweet malty, more or less watery. Light butterscotch and hops in the aftertaste.

Golden with a small white head. Malty aroma with some alcohol and solvent, and a touch of dried fruit.Sweet and vinous fruity flavour, burning hot alcohol.

From tap at Modrý Abbé, blindtasting beer #7. Pours clear and golden yellow with a dense, chalkwhite and creamy head. Vague metallic and light bitterhops aroma. Flavour is sweet caramel malt with a light bitterness showing through. Mild caramel sweet finish with a subdued sweetness.

Draught. Yellowish golden colour, mediumsized creamy white head. Aroma is grassy, cardboardy and quite grainy. Flavour is grass, hay, some rubber and that’s about it.

From tap at Modrý Abbé, blindtasting beer #5. Pours cloudy yellow to orange with a dense, chalk white and creamy head. Thin hops aroma, light cardboards once the beer heats up. Flavour is mild sweet caramel malt with a light bitterness. Dry and mild bitterness towards the finish. Ends bitter. A bit thin bodied.

Draught at blind tasting at Modry Abbe. Clear gold lager. Thick cream head. Again no real aroma. Some hop, some grain character later on . It’s probably one of the better ones of some ordinary beers.

Draught at blind tasting at Modry Abbe. Gold, slight haze, thin white head. Bit of puke on aroma. No real charcter on rest of it. No real hop presence. bit of puke.
