Description
The first written records of the brewery in Protivín date back to 1540. In 1711, it became the property of the Schwarzenberg noble family, where it remained for more than two hundred years. During the Schwarzenberg era, a beautiful brewhouse with copper boilers was built, including an atypical wort pan in the shape of a square, where beer is still brewed to this day. South Bohemian water from its own wells, traditional way of brewing and skills of South Bohemia are for decades the basis of beer brewed here, known under the brand Platan.
In 2008 the brewery became part of the Pivovary Lobkowicz Group.

The seventh beer at the Modry Abbe blind tasting.
Pale golden (almost yellow) coloured, medium sized airy white head, pleasant fresh hoppy nose with touch of corn. Sweet malty, lemony hoppiness and just a tiny touch of alcohol. Quite dry with moderate bitterness. Much better than Platan Premium.

The fifth beer at the Modry Abbe blind tasting.
Pale golden coloured, small to medium white head, dusty hoppy nose. The taste is surprisingly weak for premium, light malty and weak hoppy with moderate bitter finish. Quite one-dimensional beer.

New review: 0.5l bottle (now as Schwarzenberg 10°) courtesy of and shared with ogivlado who brought it from the Czech Republic (thanks!). Poured a slightly darker golden colour with a small white head. Honey and meat in the nose. Ehm. Slightly flowery honeyish taste, some acidic hopiness, oily with very light some odd meaty off flavors. Overall just blah. The rating stays, though I feel it’s overblown now.Old review:On the bus between Klatovy and Dobrany, I think Fil got these for us (thanks!) Poured a golden body with a small white head. Malty nose, weak sweetish earthy malty taste. Drinkable but crap at that temperature and I should rerate it asaip. 5/3/4/2/9

On the bus between Klatovy and Dobrany, I think Fil got these for us (thanks!) Poured an orangey amber gold colour with some lively carbonation and a small white head. A heavy malty/grainy nose with some alcohol present. A flowery malty taste, somewhat sticky, notes of alcohol and apple, weak weak grassy hops. More drinkable than expected and I’ve certainly had worse but still far from a good beer.
