Description
The first written records of the brewery in Protivín date back to 1540. In 1711, it became the property of the Schwarzenberg noble family, where it remained for more than two hundred years. During the Schwarzenberg era, a beautiful brewhouse with copper boilers was built, including an atypical wort pan in the shape of a square, where beer is still brewed to this day. South Bohemian water from its own wells, traditional way of brewing and skills of South Bohemia are for decades the basis of beer brewed here, known under the brand Platan.

In 2008 the brewery became part of the Pivovary Lobkowicz Group.

Bottled as Platan Protivin Alcohol Free. Yellowish golden colour, small white head. Aroma is malts, some hay and mild sweetness. Flavour is quite the same. Rather nice non-alco.

On tap, beer no.7 at the RBESG blind tasting (Modry Abbe, Klatovy) Poured a clear golden amber body with a really pale chalky thick persistent head. A nice fresh hoppy nose, but a bit on the weak side. Some malt too. A dry, bitterish taste, some eggs, sweet honeyish graininess and weak but tasty hop bitterness. Ok nuff, shows potential but never realizes it.

On tap, beer no.5 at the RBESG blind tasting (Modry Abbe, Klatovy) Poured a hazy light gold colour and a creamy medium sized white head that went away slowly. A sweetish nose, slightly fruity hop, quite nice but a bit too weak. The taste is disappointlingly weak. Some nice but oh so weak hopiness, some buttery malt and not much else. Drinkable but just lacking.

Bottled(330ml). -Dark golden coloured, small white head, mild spicy nose (typical for hemp beer). Tastes like mild sweet elder juice with spicy hemp and vegetables. Much easier to drink than Eggenberg Spirit of Hemp.

bottle, brewed @ Pivovar Bohemia Regent, Trebon. Seems to be the same beer, though. Clear pale yellow, spicy aroma. Spicy flavours, hemp I guess, which I do not particularly like. Rather strange brew.

Bottle, thanks Pivnizub. Orange amber, low off-white head. Dusty grainy, maizelike aroma. Clear alcohol notes, sweet, somewhat cloying, toffee, light nuts, a hint hops. Oily mouthfeel, a hint sparkles. Not really what I need right now....

(bottle) Clear, golden colour with a mid-sized, slightly off-white head. Biscuity sweet, bready and soft grainy nose with a tinge of fruity acidity and Saaz hops. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour; slightly bready and grainy malty taste with a light to moderate hops character; slightly hoppy and bitter finish with a rather unpleasant metallic touch.
