About
The first written records of the brewery in Protivín date back to 1540. In 1711, it became the property of the Schwarzenberg noble family, where it remained for more than two hundred years. During the Schwarzenberg era, a beautiful brewhouse with copper boilers was built, including an atypical wort pan in the shape of a square, where beer is still brewed to this day. South Bohemian water from its own wells, traditional way of brewing and skills of South Bohemia are for decades the basis of beer brewed here, known under the brand Platan.
In 2008 the brewery became part of the Pivovary Lobkowicz Group.

500ml bottle from Alko in Muonio, Finland. Dark yellow body with a short lived white head. Fresh aroma with an oily impression. Medium sweet malt and honey flavours. Slightly bitter finish. Medium palate and quite well balanced. An average.

A yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet with a weird chemical note, and the flavor is sweet metallic with a weird note of hops. Not me.

Bottle (Pivni Galerie, Prague): Deep amber coloured, mid-sized off-white fluffy head, slowly diminishing; sweet dark-malty, grainy and caramelly nose, traces of roasted malt and molasses; sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; fruity, but mainly sweet-malty finish with a little lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. A good, pleasant Dunkles.............

Bottled. Dark golden colour, small white head. Rye, hay and alcohol in aroma. Flavour of rye, alcohol, hops and malt. Wellbalanced, clean and afterall, for being 10,5% it is very pleasant and manages to hide (or fit in) the alcohol very well!
