Backlog from my Manila trip The only draft beer I was able to find in Philippines. Pretty okay, or great considering local brews elsewhere.

Tap at the Spektral Lounge, Makati. Poured a slightly hazy straw colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is big yeast, dry grainy malt, light banana notes. The flavour is moderate sweet, light acid citrus with a crisp, grainy, crushed banana, zesty fruit, light dry hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average to soft carbonation. I’m surprised at the rating variations here and after having had one shocking beer from this brewery I feel as though there are some quality issues in the production chain.

Tap at Alamat, Poblacion, Makati. Poured a clear medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light woody hop. The flavour is light bitter with a watery malt, light hop bitter palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Light, watery, no flavour at all and pretty awful. I worked hard to earn the money to pay for this beer and I have to wonder what was going through the brewers head when it was brewed?

Draft - Sweet raw banana notes. Clear gold with a decent white head. Sweet banana, high carb bite and an ok finish.

Draft - Dark malts and some Cocoa. Jet black with a rich beige head. Dark, sweet and malty with a touch of dark cocoa.

Draft - Garins with a touch of skunk. Clear gold with a rich white head. Grainy, slight skunk and nice bitterness. Actually not bad.

Bottle from Manila brought to UK by Richard. Pours a hazy golden brown colour with a small soon dissipating white head. Syrupy aroma of maize, malt, caramel and toast. Medium sweetness, light sourness. Light body, slight slickness to texture with a sticky finish. Enjoyed this the most of the 4 Pivo Praha beers tried.

Bottle brought to UK from Manila by Richard. Pours a bright and clear amber/gold colour with virtually no head. Light aroma of hops and corn. Medium sweet with a light bitterness. Light body, texture quite thin, soft carboantion. Yeasty aftertaste.

Bottle brought to UK from Manila by Richard. Pours a dull cloudy golden bron colour with a very small off white head. Aroma of malt, bread, yeast, honey and caramel. Heavy sweetness levels. Light body, oily texture. Carbonation on the flat side. Sweet finish.

Bottle brought back to UK from Manila by Richard. Pours a dark brown colour with a small, soon diminishing off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, and sweet caramel. Quite sweet, malt comes through strongly. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Possibly hadn’t travelled well, but wasn’t very good.
