Bottle, 6.52%. Clear golden with small off-white head. Aroma is malt, cardboard and vegetable. Flavour is malt, metallic, cardboard, fruit, little sweet, hop and a little bitter.

Found in Ilulissat at the Icefiord hotel - they’re not brewing their own beer anymore, or at least not now, and serve a few Godthab brews on tap instead. This one’s a darker stout-style with a decent head and ruby-brown body. Flavour is good with plenty of barley and some coffee notes, but the palate is a little thin. Though it’s the darkest beer I’ve found brewed in Greenland so far and that’s certainly worth a modest amount of attention.

Found on tap at the Hotel Arctic in Ilulissat. Has a decent aroma of malts but a bit on the homebrew-ish side. Okay flavour of nuttiness with a hoppy finish. Palate is okay but leaning towards watery. Not a bad ale-type beer.

A light ale with some hoppy hints, probably Godthab’s best beer on tap while I was there. Decent balance between malt and hops but nothing truly distinct about it. It’s sort of what their Classic beer -should- be!

Has a beautiful brown-red body with a nice off-white head on top, not big, but of ideal size. Aroma is of belgian sugars and European yeast like the classic ales of old, and is certainly inviting. Flavour is a lot of heavy malt with next to no hops, and is leaning towards fruitiness like a Belgian trappist ale. Dry finish. This is a great brew and worth seeking out in Greenland and beyond - I brought a tonne back here to Baffin Island!

Copper body with modest carbonation and almost no head, aroma of sweet malts and sugary Belgian-style ale notes with a vague hint of coriander. The beer flavour is all about coriander, however, and it’s very prominent throughout. Yet it’s not overpowering and ends up being rather balanced overall. This isn’t an everyday beer, nor is it likely intended to be - but up in Ilulissat it seemed to be quite popular and available year round anyway!

Found at the supermarket across the street from the Kangerlussuaq airport. It’s also available on tap at the brewhouse and a few other select places around Greenland. The body is a darker IPA style as well as the aroma, plenty of hops but little head. Some thick sugariness on the palate. I’d dare say that the tap version was much better than the bottled version but they were taste under such different circumstances it’s hard to compare - on on the side of the airstrip in the middle of greenland, the other sampled on tap in two of Nuuk’s finest restaurants.

This supposedly red beer tastes more like an ale with vague honey hints. I’d prefer a much sweeter amber-honey ale but this just comes off as a more predictable affair. It’s one of Godthaab’s more popular beers and is easily found in supermarkets and restaurants across Greenland, so who am I to complain about such a popular brew? I would, however, suggest any beer drinker in Greenland try the other Godthaab brews for comparison. always good to see what this brewer can really do - this is firmly in the middle of the pack for them.

On tap at the brewhouse in Nuuk. Never found a bottle of this, but I wasn’t looking too hard. It’s an okay lager, not special, weak hints of hops and a watery palate. Try their other beers instead.
