07-06-19 // 100ml on tap at BRLO BRWFEST 2019. Damn hazy yellow. Juicy pillowy. Mosaic dankness and some citra freshness. Mild hop bitterness in the end. Great.

Draught at Strassenbrau. Looks a bit like Kir. Tastes a bit like a boozy kir, not one I am big on, although it fits the temp outside

Draught at Strassenbrau. Cloudy mango with a minimal head. Aroma of soft mango and chalky IPA. Flavour is fruity bitter, dry, tart spiced fruit, long dry bitter fruit finish. Doesn’t look pretty but tasty.

Draught at Strassenbrau. Milky yellow with a medium head. Aroma is spicy fruit, mango and melon. Flavour is tangy fruit, along the same lines, sharp bitter, fruity and spicy finish. Not a big fan of neipa but this is decent.

Belgian tripel style ale aged on red wine barrels, apparently unusual in having been bottled, as this German brewpub normally only sells beers from tap at their own premises. Thanks to SterV for sharing on her birthday party. Eggshell-white, mousy, open but stable 'ring' for a head, lacing in shreds over a misty apricot golden beer with pale orangey tinge. Aroma of sweet white grapes and dessert wine, ripe peach, sweetbread, banana, young madera, outspoken vanilla-like wet oak wood, ripe yellow plums, dough, sugar melon, gooseberry jam. Sweetish, fruity onset, no overpowering isoamylacetate (banana) here as I tend to expect from a tripel but still a banana-like flavour mixed with sweet ripe grapes, yellow plums, peach and melon, vivid carbonation, soft and full mouthfeel; doughy, fluffy, supple malt sweetness, sweetbread-like, but with a sourish edge that grows a bit stronger in the finish when the red wine effect sets in - bringing along a gently drying vanilla-ish oakiness, strong sweet grape- and even slightly madera-like flavours and a boozy, brandy-ish warmth, that remains very well in place and is generally very well hidden for an 11% ABV beer; this sweet and mildly tart wine effect matches well with the yeasty-spicy, colourfully fruity and malt sweet features of the beer. The overall effect to me is less that of a classic tripel than that of a strong, typically wine barrel aged, modern farmhouse ale, vaguely reminiscent of The Kernel's Bière de Saison series and the like; in any case very well done and if this is the quality standard maintained by this brewpub, I must absolutely go and visit it on my Berlin trip in summer.

01-04-19 // tasting flight at the brewery. Black with a creamy, long lasting amd finepored beige head. Nose of roasted malts with a mild blueberry sweet touch. Light bodied, smooth and creamy body. Roasted malts, mild coffee but all very soft rven a little watery but in a positive way. Blueberries are present, dry and roasted but with a present fruitiness. Well embedded. Warming up some more chocolate than coffee. Lovely.
