brown plastic bottle(1000ml). –Just another average supermarket beer. I guess this became a rule that every larger supermarket in croatia has it’s own beer. This one is brewed for Ultra gros. Pale golden almost yellow coloured, small white head, skunky nose. Fizzy. Slight hoppy and malty, watery, mild hoppy finish.

Newest rating (4.6%, 10.9°)Ok, this went through more rebranding, it became extremely rare, with 2l plastic bottles in a few stores and 0.5l glass bottles even less common. This was from a store in Livno, Bosnia. Claims a Czech recipe (as they’re really friendly with Zubr), Reinheitsgebot and that it’s brewed for the Croatian non-brewing branch of the same company. Ugh. Probably should have a new entry but still... Poured a dull yellow body with a big white head. Malty nose, ending paper. Unimpressive taste with the typical Prima grainy maltiness and some light crappy hop, slightly sourish too and papery again. The new recipe didn’t help the quality much. 5/2/5/2.5/10.5Newer rating (5.1%, 11.8°) Prima has changed a lot over the years (for the worse I’m afraid) and really deserved a rerate. Poured a pale, dull golden body with a medium sized white head. Fruity malty nose, notes of honey, slightly grainy. Somewhat fine but boring light fruity malty taste, bit cardboardy. Completely different from the first versions. No hop bitterness, they only show up in the background and they’re barely perceptible. Low average, if. Worse when it gets warm. There’s no mention of this anywhere online, and I’ve seen it for the first time in my life today, in two separate stores, in 0.5l and 1l plastic bottles. I also didn’t know which category I should be putting it in. It’s too hoppy for a pale lager, reminded me of north German CGP’s, but I’m positive that they’d call it a pils if it was one. So into the Premium Lager category it goes.Anyway, my second BiH beer, the first was a pleasant surprise, and this was a surprise as well, but not as pleasant. Pours a nice golden colour, with noticable carbonation, but nothing over the top, and it had an extremely small white head. The nose was mainly malt, honey, grain, and my mother said that it "smelled like cheap beer". I disagree, but it ain’t great.The flavor started off very grainy, but soon a very strong hop bite showed itself, too harsh and definitely not the kind of hoppiness I prefer, but such hop presence, in a cheap Bosnian lager was definitely a huge surprise. I can see one reason why they would do that. To hide the malt, which is bad, and luckily rears its ugly head only sporadically. Not too onedimensional, but the hops are overpowering, bringing bitterness and some lemon, and pine flavors. The aftertaste isn’t as strong as I thought it would be, but it’s far from unnoticable. I guess this would be a "lager for hopheads", but I doubt that even they wouldn’t mind the harshness (definitely from hops, no corn presence could be detected). (5/3/5/2/13, 2.8, August 4 2005)
