Tap at Watering Hole. Citrus all over the nose with white grapefruit, lemon and iyokan dominating. Good carbonation with a bitter, pithy dryness on the palate. Finish is clean and dry. Really great hoppy hybrid ESB. Another one to Y Market.

dark brown color with frothy medium brown head. Light cafe au lait nose. The body is rather thin, with modest roasted character. Slightly astringent. Just really doesn’t do much for me. Lacks hops and bitterness. Ok though.

Tap into a shaker showing moderate filtration, honey colored with half a finger of white foam. The nose shows a mix of light pine, citrus fruit, and hints of pineapple. The palate is heavily carbonated and light bodied. Flavors of a lot of citrus fruit with a slight acidity and moderately strong citric zesty spiciness. The finish shows a citric zest bitterness with the spiciness showing up once more on the linger.

5.5% abv at Watering Hole. This is an interesting take on a pale lager. Big NW hops on the nose....juicy resin, dankiness, oranage and grapefruit all stand out clearly. Body feels quite heavy and bready but the aromas stand out throughout. Chewy and malty on the palate. Feels very macro (Sapporo-like) in the body with enough hops to keep it interesting. Malty finish with some light dryness. Basically it tastes like the beers that the Japanese macro’s have been wanting to make with their Crafty beer series. It’s like Y Market is showing the macros up at their own game...in lager fashion nonetheless. Solid pale lager. --- Beer merged from original tick of Break Shot IPL on 21 Jan 2016 at 19:08 - Score: 7. Original review text: Good chewy malt body with nice dry hopping...maybe Amarillo hops

Tap at Watering Hole. Big hop nose with lots of juicy citrus and tropical notes jumping out. The nose alone reminds me of Aurora from Modern Times. A little too thin on the palate and slightly boozy on the finish. There is some malt character, but not enough I guess to balance out the booze and hop flavors. Nice effort from a style not really seen in Japan. Again, Y Market has mastered the use of hops at this point in Japan. There isn’t another brewery even close to their hop game right now. Just a little more balance in this one and maybe lower the abv a bit and this would be a monster. --- Beer merged from original tick of Kanzou Yaburi no Aka - Liver Destroyer RED (肝臓破りの赤) on 21 Jan 2016 at 19:18 - Score: 7. Original review text: Good NW hops with grapefruit and juicy pine. Little boozy and thin bodied. But still solid....thrashZone like in a way

Out delivering some BEER ZEN magazines and so am having a beer at Takumiya. Y Market’s Ardennes Red Beautiful reddish orange color with a huge juicy sweet citrus hop bouquet. The taste is bitter citrus peel, pithy the sweet maltiness featuring mild biscuit flavors. Nice stuff. This class looks somewhat small for 700¥ though.

Very dark brown color. The nose is fuckin weird. Like sticking your nose in a barrel of cut open unripe plums that are covered in port. Very rich tart, pugnent, estry and powerful. Fairly boozy, never sweet, fairly tart, roasted malt, plums, port, chocolate cake, rasins. Very tightly wounded up, almost tannic. This puppy doesn’t need another year, it needs another three years. Wow. Port, plums and raisins linger in the finish. Deserves the score I am giving above, but I am sure this score will only get better in time. First rating from Jan 2016. Tried again at Y Market in May 2017. The port plum and raisins are all there but now more integrated. Low carbonation. Super smooth. Finishes like a cigar dipped in port and molasses. The body is super light. Damn this beer is fine. The age is really helping this. Originally 4.1, but I am nudging this up, especially because it’s 13% and drinks like 7%. Wow

Tap at Watering Hole. Clear gold with a small white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Nice grapefruit and citrus nose with light crackery malts. Average carbonation with a light body, but a solid malt backbone. Well-balanced pils with good aroma hops. Nice crisp, dry finish. Solid. --- Beer merged from original tick of Gypsy Lager on 05 Jan 2016 at 20:05 - Score: 7

Tap at Watering Hole. Deep brown with a small rim of off-white head around the edges. Dark cacao all over the nose with some light roasted malt and slight grassy notes. Well-balanced between roasty bitterness and sweetness on the palate. Super chocolatey and malty with a touch of hop bitterness on the finish. Almost like a chocolate shake...is this a schwartz?!? Great stuff from Y. Market. --- Beer merged from original tick of The Black Crown on 05 Jan 2016 at 20:12 - Score: 8. Original review text: Lights out! Y market has made a boring style interesting!!!
