Draft at Belgo, Ton That Tiep. Poured a crystal clear medium amber colour with a lasting frothy white head with clingy lace and some champagne bubbles. The aroma is malt and Belgian yeast. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a fresh, crisp, malt, yeasty, light herbal, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Refreshing.

Keg at Belgo, Saigon. Fruity and yeast nose. Looks fine. It tastes fine as a blonde but lacks any body that I would expect for a Belgian blonde.

Bottle. An unclear, really dark brown beer with a dense, two-finger dark beige head. Some lacing. The aroma is rather spiced, with raisin, dark malts, toffee hints, some alcohol and a touch of dark rye bread. Licorice too, when it heats up a bit. It's full-bodied, very lightly warming and very soft on the palate, sweet but not too sweet, and with a really gentle bitterness. The flavor has dark malts, brown sugar, some licorice and dark bread, quite a lot of dark dried fruit, raisin and fig mostly, along with quite a lot of spices. Ginger, cardamom, star anise, cloves and cinnamon I'd say. Should be eight in total according to the label. Some gentle notes of yeast too, indicating it might not have been fully fermented before bottling. Long spiced finish with dark dried fruit and some licorice. Well hidden alcohol all the way in the mouth, but the overall impression is a bit messy. I like the spices, but they take too much room, and it feels like it should've stayed longer on the fermenter. Sure nice though, and not what I was expecting from Vietnam. I just read Full Moon and my mind was instantly thinking of Witbier, which this sure isn't. Wont' shy away from drinking it again given the chance. 230111

Draft at the District 3 brewpub. Poured a hazy reddish brown colour with a lasting frothy off-white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is big cherry as expected. The flavour is moderate sweet, light sour, with a smooth, rich tart cherry palate. Rather one dimensional but that’s what I bought into when I ordered this. Rather sweet when most people ordering a Belgian cherry ale will be expecting tart and sour.

Draft at the District 3 brewpub. Poured a slightly hazy golden colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt and some gluey yeast. The flavour is moderate bitter, very light sweet, with a malt, herbal, subtle melon, passionfruit, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation. This is my best effort at a rating as I’ve been eating those totally delicious spicy grains they give you here and my palate is totally destroyed :-)
