Tap at Takumi. Deep orange, hazy. Sweaty grapefruit nose, crisp malt. Simcoe all the way. Crackery, dry flavor, grapefruit, sweaty minerals. good use of the hop.

deep golden color. Very nice tropical fruit in the nose. Modestly aggressive bitter mouth. Body is slightly lacking. Cracker malt backbone with strong citrus notes and pine. Good stuff but nothing exceptional

Tap at the Uji Fest. Orange color, medium body and a nice hop bouquet that features candied stone fruit while the taste has a bitter bite and yet remains a bit fruity. Solid.

Tap at Takumiya. Pale amber, low head. Nose is pine, stone fruit, light tropical, some caramel. Flavor similar, with a fabulous spicy, peppery, piny finish and proper bitterness. Low carbonation, smooth and silky. Great.

On tap at Mikkeller Tokyo. Pours a clear amber orange color with a medium white head. A nice soft perfume and caramel nose. Bready, sweet biscuit, light citrus. Pretty smooth and solid.

They had a side by side tasting set at Real Ale Yell Gifu for 1100 yen for 2 x 150ml pours. The Oni Densetsu version is crisp clear and cleaner but lacking the juice and depth of the Y Market one. Side by side the difference is obvious as Y Market’s has the true cloudy honey NE color you’d expect from the style. A good IPA but the NE part has been stripped out of it.

Deep golden color. Apricot crumble pie hoppy nose. Medium full body with some sweetness, so well integrated. Off sweet mouth. Big bitterness. So well put together. Excellent.

Tap at Komachi. Dank, tropical fruit nose, some grapefruit. Deep golden color with a low head. Dank pineapple and citrus, mango, crackers. Nice enough but a bit too dry and doesn’t really use the hop as well as I hoped.
