Re-rate. flat light amber color. Slightly sour, plavac mali, cherries, s rounded alcohol well hidden. Toffee, moderately sweet. Dark cherries. Very malty Lingering port and plavac Mali finish. Rating is a blend of the two ratings. slight sour, sweet, malty toffee, burnt raisins, sugar milk chocolate cherries with long long lingering creame brûlée finish. Succulent. The nose isn’t so tempting, but things get much better after that. Very enjoyable.

Bottle from the Supermarket in Utsunomiya. Very rich, malty aroma, with biscuit, caramel, a bit of butter, baked apples, cherry, a tiny bit of citrus. Bright amber, clear, with a fine, low, head. Sweet and alcoholic, hot, but the booze blends with a rather hoppy finish giving a mixed burn. Rich amber malts, biscuit, some caramel, grains. Interesting heller bock flavor. Not much hop flavor, but better bitterness than usual. Just a bit too rough, though, and the malt character is lacking for such a big beer. Not much cascade to speak of.

Bottle. Dark brown. Woody, smoky roast nose, with cream and chocolate. Sweet flavor, very milky, with chocolate, cafe au lait, pretty well roasted too, with wood and a bit of smoke. Very sweet, and cannot quite maintain balance. A bit cloying. Not all that bad, but too thick and syrupy.

Bottle from the Supermarket at Utsunomiya Station. Drank on the Shinkansen after an earthquake, while we waited for 2 1/2 hours to get going again. They make this beer to go with their Chinese dumplings, though I cannot see how that is. Tastes more like a brown ale or a dunkler bock to me than a marzen. Big malt aroma of caramel, nuts, chocolate. Swee,t rich malt flavor, chocolate and caramel. Sweet and tasty, bock-like, with some dark fruits. A bit too sweet, but not that bad overall. Nice enough malt character.
