Description
In Peccatum Craft Beer was born in 2013 under the brand name Cerveza Keltius, brewing Belgian-style beers in a small brewpub in the city of Ourense.
In 2015 it was decided to dispense with the brewpub and move to an industrial estate, dedicating ourselves 100% to manufacturing and distribution, and acquiring new equipment and machinery that allowed us to triple the production volume and automate much of the process. The company aspires to continue growing and improving the quality of its beers day by day.

Danke an Taboada. Wenig karbonisierter Beginn. Trocken, etwas Vanille, weich getreidig. Milde, leicht bittere Noten von Kaffee, die Getreidigkeit wird dunkler. Intensiv, sehr süffig, langer Nachhall. 10/11/12/12/11/11

Bottle shared by tderoeck, cheers! New and hip stout with cinnamon, cocoa, honey and harissa (a Moroccan sauce made with hot chili peppers, garlic, cumin, tomato, coriander and more or less resembling sambal). Thick and creamy, very dense, yellowish beige head leaving behind moussy lacing, black robe with hazy burgundy edges. Aroma of caramel, liquorice, lots of bitter black chocolate (the cocoa no doubt), strong salmiak-like effect which is probably related to the harissa, toffee, honey noticeable, nutmeg, hazelnut oil, rum, glue, cinnamon. Sweetish onset, dried fig, old raisins, baked banana, medium carb, thick caramelly and nutty malt base turning more and more black chocolatey towards the end, walnutty and roasted but never losing its caramelly sweet core (enhanced by the honey), eventually adorned with cinnamon- and indeed pepper-like spiciness representing the harissa and a glow of warming, rum-like alcohol. Interesting and quite original, spicy indeed but not overdone, comparable in its basic character with the Death Crush by the same brewery we tasted next to this one.

Spanish 'impy', bottle shared by tderoeck, cheers! Very thick, creamy and dense, pale yellow-beige head over a black beer with thin, hazy mahogany edges. Aroma of green coffee beans, fondant chocolate, cold espresso, burnt chicory, cigar ashes, caramel, liquorice, brown rum, dried elderberries, glue. Dried fig and baked banana sweetness in the onset, sourish edge, only very light umami accent, softish carb, thick oily body. Sweetish hazelnutty and chocolatey maltiness, developing more toastiness towards the end and finishing with full coffeeish roasted bitterness accentuated by a peppery hop punch and heating, rum-like, lingering alcohol as well as a spicy liquorice-like effect. No game changer when it comes to this overexposed style, but certainly enjoyable for what it is and one of the better In Peccatums for me so far.

Clear amber brown colour, small fizzy off-white head, quickly diappearing, light lacing. Aroma toasted malts, dark fruits, candied cherries, wood, port, caramel, alcohol. Taste light heavy sweet, slightly bitter and light sourish notes, malty, red fruits, woody, light port, retronasal wood and port. Sweetbitter aftertaste with fruity sourish notes, warming alcohol, medium body, sticky to watery texture, average carbonation. Bit odd brew the rich ripe aroma with wood and port isn't followed by the same in the taste which is light and fruity and gradually becoming more and more sourish, interesting.

Spanish smoked imperial stout with coffee and cocoa, brewed with rye. Can at Kantien in Ghent. Thin, pale greyish white head, not much more than a creamy ring, lacing in ‘dots’ over a black beer with burgundy-ruddy edge, only visible under bright light and in the end. Strong aroma of hot chocolate sauce and chocolate liqueur, kahlua, glue, walnut, cappuccino, beef stock, liquorice, treacle, smoked meat in the background, cigars, toasted rye bread, brown rum, candied dates, hint of wet dog. Sweet onset, candied dates and raisins, sourish roasted barley undercurrent and cured meat-like umami accent but not overdone (I was fearing a lot more of it based on the beef broth aspect in the nose); soft carb, very thickly oily mouthfeel. Thick chocolatey malt body, its ‘chocolateyness’ reinforced by the cocoa but everything blends in well, hazelnut- and toffee-flavoured maltiness as well, espresso-like coffee notes in the end on top of roasted bitterness – but the fudge-, chocolate sauce- and candied date-like sweetness competes with it for attention. Smokiness remains limited to a pipe tobacco-ish effect at the back, even a whiff of smoked meat somewhere; spicy hop bitter aspect in the finish too, before everything is washed away by a pronounced, heating and rather wry rum-like alcohol presence. I can highly appreciate a really big, bold, boozy stout every now and then and this one clearly aims for the intensity of this type of beers inherent to the American style imperial stouts, but it lacks a bit in refinement, could have been less beef stock-like and less alcoholic; somewhat crude, let’s say, but certainly generous, pungent and intense.

Can from European Local Swap 1/2018, thank you Taboada! Pours interestingly almost clear, light transparent amber with some white foam on top. Quite unusual look to be honest. Nose is full on tropical, stuffy with ripen fruits, not too sweet but definitely characterful. Taste has ots of citrus, mixed with mango and papaya. Hoppy combinations, quite crisp and thirst-inducing there. Good level of bitterness, medium, herbal and continues lingering in the aftertaste. Tasty hoppy IPA, does satisfy my hop tooth quite easily.
