Description
Belgian and Hop forward inspired Brewpub located in Historic Uptown Shelby, North Carolina. Enjoy up to 16 hand-crafted brews, cuisine and live music.
Newgrass Brewing Company resides in heart of what many people know as the “City of Pleasant Living,” otherwise known as Shelby, North Carolina. We draw on our farmland surroundings, traditions and local heroes for inspiration while striving to maintain our own unique and progressive brewing concepts.
Just as the “newgrass” music genre was a progressive take on a very traditional style of music in bluegrass, Newgrass Brewing Company strives to do the exact same by blending renditions of traditional styles with deconstructed and reinterpreted progressive brews that have no borders.

Can at home. Dark brown to black color, small dark brown colored head. Aroma is malts, chocolate, fudge, vanilla, cocoa. Flavor is malts, chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, slightly a hint of hazelnuts perhaps, soft roast, lightly some alcohol notes, dark malt bitter in the finish. Oily syrupy texture, quite thick mouthfeel, relatively soft carbonation. Quite good.

473ml can [9.0% abv]. Jet black colour with late awakening, small, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, tan head. Aroma has initially (thankfully) ephemeral hints of dog shit, later hints of caramel, toffee and cocoa. Taste is sweet, dark and caramel malty, notes of dark caramel, toffee, some chocolate, cocoa; slightly warming, alcoholic finish. Very viscous texture, smooth and soft, slightly cloying palate, fine and soft carbonation. Though ephemeral, the dog shit touch in the aroma remains annoying, all the while it disappears physically yet doesn't vanish in memory totally. Furthermore not overly rich, rather monotonous and tacky - meh.

473ml can. Murky, purple colour with small, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, pink-ish head. Fruity and spicy aroma, notes of rosemary and plum. Taste is sweet-and-sour fruity, mildly spicy, slightly lactic, notes of plum, hints of rosemary, a touch of sauerkraut. Viscous, mushy texture, smooth and soft palate, fine and soft carbonation. Very nice combination, good balance, smoothie-like consistency - very good!

Yesterday. Marmalade and a hint of black tea oxidation. Solid but a hint past its prime.
