Description
603 Brewery was founded in 2012 by long time college friends. As home brewers, who met while studying engineering, they set out to design high quality, hand crafted beers. As demand for the beers increased, the vision to launch a microbrewery was developed. With a focus on quality and versatility, our hand crafted beer is brewed using the finest ingredients in small batches.

Taster pour as part of a flight at the brewery. Appearance is opaque black with no sparkle, ring of beige head with no lacing. Aroma is strong roasted malt bordering on smoke. Taste is strong roasted malt and coffee--bordering on char--and chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, no graham cracker or marshmallow so kind of not really getting the whole s'more thing and demerits for missing the description. Mostly burnt/roasted quality and a bit too carbonated.

Taster pour as part of a flight at the brewery. Appearance is lightly hazy piss yellow with trace sparkle, thin coating of off-white head with nice leggy lacing. Aroma is mild fruit and some herb but pretty weak. Taste is stronger than the aroma. Tasty mix of melon, fruit and herb. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth, frothy texture, soft-to-average carbonation and crisp finish as taste. Overall, the taste is much better than the aroma with a nice mix of fruit and herb. Alcohol is hidden well but a bit thin in the body for a DIPA.

Taster pour as part of a flight at the brewery. Appearance is opaque very dark brown--virtually opaque--with no sparkle, thin ring of beige head with no lacing. Aroma is bourbon, maple. Taste is bourbon, dark fruit, and maple a bit too high in the mix initially; then mild nuts. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, average-to-lively carbonation and sweet finish as taste. A bit cloying. Overall, aroma is really promising but the bourbon, fruit and maple are too much, at least initially, but then calms.

Can (2/13/20) pour from the brewery. Appearance is cloudy, murky brown with slight mahogany (with light source directly behind), tons of effervescent sparkle, ephemeral thin cap of light brown head, like a soda, and no lacing. Aroma is mix of earthy and sweet malts, cardboard, mild fruit. Taste is earthy and slightly charred roasted malts; mild fruit. Mouthfeel is light side of light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, average carbonation and dry finish as taste. Overall, too earthy/burnt without enough sweet balance. Thin and lack of head/persistence/lacing is not greatest look. Not getting chocolate. Misses on a number of levels for me.

Can (12/19/19) pour from the brewery. Appearance is opaque black with light sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width crackling light brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, tart fruit, mild coconut. Taste is moderate earthy malt, tart fruit, milder cookie batter, mild cocoa and coconut. Mouthfeel is light side of light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, fizzy carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, attractive description and label but it falls short on every level. Strange tart fruit quality in the aroma and flavor and, for a beer that should be quite sweet, it's fairly muted. Thin and fizzy. Better offerings elsewhere. Disappointing.

6 oz draft at The 603 Beer Hall. The aroma was promising. Huge coffee and mild bourbon. Flavor shows that Bourbon and maple are here without doubt. Ends on light bourbon. Bourbon almost cuts the sweetness. Almost.

Pounder can. Odd label, 603 upside down, weird. I don't like that they called it sangria because it almost made me pass it by. Initial taste is quite nice, I like wild brews and its not much like sangria - its misleading, thankfully. Yes, tasty sour beer. Perhaps a little dull in the middle but its a pretty decent brew. Goes down pleasantly with an even keel. Overall, I'm glad my son in law gave this to me, he really knows the styles I like, heheh, thanks Nate.

Odd 19.2 oz tall can. Pitch black appearance. Aroma brings notes of nice coffee, rich roasted malts, some burnt barley. The malts pretty rich in the flavor. Good layers of malt. Strong showing from 603.
