Sampled at GCBF 2010. Cloudy neon red. Raspberry, not tart at all - more like a juice. Medium body, mellow mouthfeel. Not unpleasant, not particulary interesting either.

Bottled. A hazy deep red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, hops, grass, pine needles, and grapefruit. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and alcohol as well as strong notes of hops lending it notes of lemon, grapefruits, and pine needles, and a dry and bitter finish. The body is light.

Bottle at Rangoli, pours clear bronze. Aroma of some caramel, cinnamon and dough. Flavour is underwhelming - subtle notes of raisins and caramel malts, with a citrus finish. Not too good.

Sampled at GCBF '10, pours pinkish red with a pink head. Aroma of raspberries and cherries. Flavour begins with sweet raspberries, but finishes very tart. A decent specialty brew.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Hazy blond color; creamy head, nice lace. Wet paper and cereals aroma and flavor, light sweetener sweetness, a bit skunky; strong bitterness. Rather bad.

Cask gravity at Dix, Vancouver, as R&B Espresso and Vanilla Stout, 5% ABV
Black color, beige ring of bubbles. Without surprise, there is coffee aroma: mild, freshly brewed American coffee, spicy. Lean body, coffeish flavor, fresh, dry, with a moderate presence of ashes, and light chili peppers. The final is quite dry and roasted. Balanced. No vanilla, and this is good news. Good.

Cask at The Irish Heather, Vancouver
fresh cask

Cloudy red amber color; nitro-like head, creamy; too cold. The aroma is mild but interesting: malt, yeast fruitness, pepper, light manure. Also the flavor is quite light, with earthy caramel and a pepper touch; but the bitterness is just a bit too much; the final is light, quite British, there is also a very light fruit touch, but a bit dusty and dry too. It was a good idea to propose this beer on cask.

Draught at WaaZuBee Café, Vancouver
Hazy blond color. Light paper aroma. The flavor is so and so, some malt and some corn, definitively missing the crispy character of a true beer. Correct bitterness. Simple.

Draught at Amberjack Tap House, Surrey, BC
The color is almost black; the head is brownish. Light aroma, burnt paper and roasted malt. Very dry mouthfeel, with harsh roasted malt flavor, weak body. Correct bitterness, all from the black malt. Monodimensional, and not the dimension I prefer.

Bottled, from Kimberley, BC. Black, small head. Smokey cocoa aroma. Dry and clean with fairy light body. Interesting flavours of smoke and coffee, but a bit sharp in the mouth.
