About
Proud Early Bird of Craft Beer - The Big Rock Story
17,000 years ago, a glacier carried a huge rock onto the Alberta prairies where none like it had been before. This "big rock" is the glacial erratic we take our name from, as no doubt, our founder's notion of creating a craft brewery in 1985 was a bit erratic at the time.
The rooster represents our early arrival as craft brewers. It's also a bit of a nod to the "cock of the walk" bravura that Ed McNally had when he started Big Rock Brewery.
We craft our beer with our brewmasters’ skill and imagination, utilizing local ingredients and innovative processes, all rooted in Ed McNally's original passion for excellence and in doing things differently and better.

Clear yellow with no lasting foam, weak hop sweetness on the nose. Flavour is nothing, really - some weak hop grains and no pilsnery crispness. What is this? Why bother? At least The Legendary Pink Dots are playing tonight so this taster won't harsh my vibe.

Clear yellow body and modest foam, smells of coffee poured into those tiny styrofoam cups from the 80's. Flavour is plenty of coffee character and a hint of grain. Full enough on the mouth. Meek at best.

Clear yellow body and little foam, sweet banana on the nose which is where I guess the mango plays out. Flavour is tinny mango with vague banana hints... ich. That tin. It lingers like a bad Tinder date in the morning. Get rid of that and the rest is fine.

Can from Big Rock Urban Brewery, Vancouver
Blond colour, on the pale side, small head. Vague aroma of bread and crackers; thin and dry mouthfeel; just some corn-like flavour, a hint of citrus.
Really modest both on the malt and on the hop; clean and very boring.

Dark brownish black body and okay creamy head on top. Sweet chewy oatmeal and dark biscuit on the nose. Flavour is soft chewy chocolate notes, hints of coffee. Mouthfeel just seems ever so slightly thin. Mediocre at best.

Dark toast and oatmeal. Deep brown with a rich light brown head. Raisin, toast and some malts. Very thin and light finish. More like a dark mild,
