Founder and Chief Beer Officer, An Bui has gained international recognition in his years spent working at his family-owned restaurant, Mekong, the Vietnamese eatery located in Richmond, Virginia. Founded in 1995, Mekong flourished into an award-winning spot for beer enthusiasts because of its wide variety of rare and international beers and expansive food menu. After years of spreading his passion for craft beer to the local community and throughout, Bui decided to take things a step further. On September 2, 2014, An opened the doors to The Answer Brewpub, his very own craft brewery. Featuring 56 taps, 2 bars, and an exceptional stage area for live music, The Answer has become another means of An’s continuous vision to expand the Richmond beer community.

Seriously boozy for the ABV. Once I get through that, nice bitterness, some lime and grapefruit pith, dank.

Draft at Snallygaster 2024. Poured a clear golden orange color with a small white head. Aroma was light grassy notes, with some mild toasted notes. Flavor was light smoke? a bit odd, mostly clean. Decent stuff.

Half pint can shared at Benny’s place. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a thin broken tan head. The aroma is big chocolate. The flavour is strong sweet, with a rich, roasty, sweet chocolate, light marzipan, nutty, coconut, boozy bourbon, liqourice bitter palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation. Awesome.

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 01/09/24. Murky marmalade orange with a big old lasting off white cap. Nose is juicy tropical fruits, papaya, mandarin, hop spice, grass, grapefruit, orange pith, light floral notes. Taste comprises juicy citric flesh, grass, pine resin, mango, papaya, soft smooth malts, mandarin, great orange vibes, hint of yuzu perhaps, pineapple. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close spliced with balanced juicy come resinous hop bitterness. Solid DIPA/TIPA/QIPA whatever you want to call it ... effortless in the drinkabilty stakes for a 13% hoppy bier.

Can. Hazy yellowish gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is slightly viscous but brings a very good sharp minerally carbonation. Smooth malts, quite light but adequate creamy sweetness. Crisp pine. Hop spice on the attack from the get go. Bright pine, savoury skunk, bright citrus, a good amount of yellow grapefruit backed up by a lesser tropical fruits. Light crisp finish brings more juicy hops. A delight and as easy drinking a QIPA as I can recall.
