Description
Scofflaw burst onto the scene during the latter half of 2016 and has quickly become recognized for its highly sought after IPAs and Stouts including Basement IPA, POG Basement IPA, as well as its higher-gravity IPAs such as the Double Jeopardy and Hooligan. Scofflaw's Absentium Stout, and in particular the Barrel Aged Vanilla Absentium stout, are coveted among traders. Even so, Scofflaw's focus continues to be on Atlanta's west midtown area and its surrounding neighborhoods, such as the Bolton hood.

Quite hazy golden and light peach coloured body with a larger pure white head, about two centimetres tall that fades quickly and leaves just a lacing on top. Aroma of tropical fruits of course with a good deal of hop bite, but the guava and lilikoi (passionfruit) notes are the strongest along with some touches of alcohol and lighter malts noticeable throughout. Medium-bodied; Assertive bitterness from the lighter hops with a good balance of sweetness and stronger malt backbones with a good dose of alcohol, some bitterness from the grassy and fruity hops but also leaving things nice and complex for the fruity finish. Aftertaste shows the passionfruit, guava, banana, mango and tropical fruit notes but the hops are nice as well leaving a light biterness and robust body and complexity for the style. Overall, a nice and rich IPA with a lot of fruity and complex flavours that aren't obtusely bitter or pungent, but flavourful and quite dank. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased as a six pack from Publix in Buckhead/Lenox/Atlanta, Georgia a few minutes ago on 29-May-2018 for US$11,99/six pack, sampled in my hotel room a few minutes later here in Buckhead/Atlanta, Georgia on 29-May-2018.

Bottle shared at Zack's Epic Tasting. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of beige head that lingers. Deep cacao forward nose with some coffee and dark fruit. Palate is black forrest cake, fairly rich and chewy on the palate. Lingering cherry and dark chocolate on the finish. Really nice.

Bottle shared at Zack's Epic Tasting. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of beige foam. Big and rich cacao nib forward nose with coffee, bourbon and german chocolate notes. More cacao nib, fudge and oak on the palate. Bourbon is there, but not as big as a lot of barrel aged beers. Balanced, alcohol is hidden fairly well. Lingering cacao nib on the finish with baker's chocolate and oak. --- Beer merged from original tick of Coco Absentium on 27 May 2018 at 09:43 - Score: 9

Very balanced smoothie IPA, reaching a comfortable equilibrium between mango-berry vanilla notes and the citric hop bitterness. Hints of sweetness never actually become sweet, while earth and grain from the malts provide a solid base. Finishes dry and piney with a moderate citric-berry tartness. Pours pretty gold with a frothy white head and nice lace. Perky texture has just the right amount of oily IPA slickness to be wickedly drinkable. Tasty.
