12 oz can purchased at the Martin City Brewing Company Pizza & Tap in Kansas City, Missouri. Canned 11/28/16. The pour is a hazed black brown with a smallish 1/4 inch tan head. The aroma is rich, very fresh roasted coffee, along with nutty malt, and pine peeking through in the back. The taste is clean, fresh high quality coffee, roast, followed closely with a sweet nuttiness and finishing with roast bitterness and some of the pine from the nose. The palate is medium to heavier bodied, active natural carbonation and the clean roast finish. Well executed coffee beer, tasty.

32 oz crowler filled at the Martin City Brewing Company Pizza & Tap in Kansas City, Missouri, consumed at home 24 hours later. The pour is a pretty hazed golden orange with a well formed one inch foamy white head. The aroma is fresh citrus, citrus peel, bit of pine and cracker malt. The taste is the citrus, fresh bright mandarin orange fruit, the bitter citrus peel, and finishing with a nice backbone of crack malt. Pine and mineral in the aftertaste as well. The palate is medium bodied, soft natural carbonation, the clean pine mineral finish, and a whisper of alcohol heat. Tasty beer.

Goblet draft at the Martin City Brewing Company Pizza & Tap in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a hazed brown golden with a smallish white head. Served very cold, aroma and flavor really needed time to warm up and shine. The aroma is big red wine initially, opening up to sour tart Flanders Red particularly as it warms. Bit of wood, soft vinegar as well. The taste is rich malt, red wine, black cherry tart sour and more red wine in the finish. Nice integration of the flavors. The palate is medium bodied with soft carbonation and the soft tart lingering finish. Nice one, well executed.

4 oz draft taster glass at Harry’s Tavern (attached to Lukas Liquor) in Martin City, Missouri. The pour is a hazed brown with an off white head. The aroma is bright scotch whiskey, raisin, clove yeast and a caramel honey malt. The taste is has the whisky all over it, along with the raisin, clove and caramel honey of the nose. FUll, rich flavors. As the beer warms, a nice Islay salt is present on the nose and taste, adding additional depth. The palate is heavy bodied with low carbonation and a mouth coating slick mouth feel. Lingering whisky finish. Despite the strong whisky flavors, it does actually manage the booze pretty well. We’ll made, though not entirely my thing.

Goblet draft at the Martin City Brewing Company Pizza & Tap in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a dark black with a thin khaki head. The aroma is booze, whiskey along with caramel, cane sugar and big round fruit sweetness. A bit of roast malt in there as well as the beer warms. The taste is boozy sweet raisin up front, the caramel sugar and finishing with some of the roast malt and big boozy liquor alcohol heat. A bit of pine in the long finish. The heat is actually well integrated with the malt and caramel raisin sweet, there is just so much alcohol. The palate heavy bodied with soft to low carbonation and a big pile of the warming alcohol. Well made but too boozy for me.
