Description
Jaanihanso is a family owned cider house and orchard on a historic farm dating back to the 18th century. Our family bought Jaanihanso in 2000. Our knowledge of the farm’s history originates from the papers that we found from the house, and from older villagers stopping at our gate to reminisce about the “old days”.
The renovation story of the estate has been in sync with our own growing pains. Some years with larger construction works, some years not that much, but there has been constant mutual bettering. In 2013, when the last bits of the house had been refurbished, the car had to move out from its brand-new pigsty-turned-garage to make room for cider. Famously, a garage is the best place to start a venture.

Bottle (thanks fatphil). Pours pink. Aroma is sweet, sour, apples, berries. Flavor follows the nose. Has some dryness in the finish. Carbonation is high. Overall: ok, but I’m not a huge fan of using champagne yeast in cider.

Bottle (thanks marduk). Pale yellow. Aroma is apples, some sourness. Flavor is sour, sweet, apples. Body is watery, carbonation is low. Overall: not offending, but rather bad. I actually like still ciders, but this doesn’t have enough character to be enjoyable. It has the typical Jaanihanso flavors, but they doesn’t work in still cider. Not sure how much similarity there is to actual Asturian stuff, but I suspect not much.

08.07.2017, 0,375l bottle (2015 vintage) @ home:
Nice fizzy-creamy shortlasting head, clear straw colored. Aroma is dry concentrated fruity, apple cores, yeast, sour apples, hay, apple peel, sorrel, minerals, citrus acid. Taste is dry sour-ish fruity, apple peel, sorrel, apple cores, sour apples, grass, yeast, minerals, hay, unripe berries, hints of citrus acid. Medium bitterness, dry sour-ish mouthfeel. Nice.
