Description
Jaanihanso is a family owned cider house and orchard on a historic farm dating back to the 18th century. Our family bought Jaanihanso in 2000. Our knowledge of the farm’s history originates from the papers that we found from the house, and from older villagers stopping at our gate to reminisce about the “old days”.
The renovation story of the estate has been in sync with our own growing pains. Some years with larger construction works, some years not that much, but there has been constant mutual bettering. In 2013, when the last bits of the house had been refurbished, the car had to move out from its brand-new pigsty-turned-garage to make room for cider. Famously, a garage is the best place to start a venture.

75cl bottle from my Euro Secret Santa Dec 15. Pours clear gold, aroma is light apple skins, Crémant and fresh green apple flesh. Quite spritzy and largely lacking in fruitiness, with some bitter apple core coming through. Quite unusual for a cider in this region to not be sweet, especially having been produced in a French style, but this was pleasant enough if lacking in a proper fruity character.

Flavor is sour and somewhat bitter, apples, spices, cinnamon, gardemon, and acidic notes. Finish is tart, bitter and more spices. No sign of alcohol. Overall: easily one of the best ciders I have tried.

0,75L bottle. Pours golden with whiteish head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is apples, sour, acidic, champagne yeast. Flavor follows the nose. Finish is dry. Carbonation is high. Overall: like the commercial description says, it’s a cross between champagne and cider. Not bad, but I had only a small glass and that was enough.

33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 05.12.2015

Aroma has leathery tones, earthy notes and some apples – like a farmhouse saison or sour(ish) ale. Also some grassy hoppiness. Flavour starts with hops, turns to earthy notes with some urinal – and ends with leathery apples. A bit watery palate. Messy but quite interesting. The hops are not in the front but they make this a bit beer-like.

Huge particles started to float in the bottle after pouring. So be careful with this one.
