Poured up on tap at Craft 64 where it exhibits a crystal clear deep gold body that supports a thin off white head. The aroma offers up pine hops, a flash of citrus and some malty notes in the background. The taste delivers richness that has reassuring malts amid a wave of tasty pine hop flavor and bitterness. Behind the pine are modest levels of citrus hoppiness that adds juiciness and bitterness to the experience. Lovely pine hoppy beer that’s not messing around, it’s full of hop bite. Nice!

Poured up on tap at ohso pv where it exhibits a nice dark body that supports a thin mocha colored head. The modest aroma offers up dark roasted malts and chocolate malts with pine hoppiness floating around the periphery. The taste delivers sweet and roasty malts and chocolate and then quickly getting into drier dark roastiness and bitter hops. To midway the hops turn more resiny and pine like but not surpassing the big roastiness. Solid. Lots of hops and roastiness that achieve some flavor harmony.

64oz grolwer (listed at the brewpub as 7.7% ABV and 68 IBUs) pours with a crystal clear deep copper to amber body that supports a tall cobwebby tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a blend of caramel to crystal malts, piney hops, some earthy onion dankness, a few spikes of grapefruit and then a bit more malts filling in here and there. The taste begins smooth with malts but quickly slides into a pleasing degree of modestly resiny but fully bitter pine hops as well as thin layers of earthy tea like hop notes and then malt sweetened grapefruit and orange rind. It stays pretty bitter from here into the finish were to adequate malt bill keeps the hops softened some and in check the whole way. Lurking well off in the background I seem to be getting echoes of sweet malty fruity esters from time to time. That note is light right now and not really destruction from the experience.

Sample at GABF 10/04/2014, thanks to my BIL for assistance with note-taking. Jet black pour with a medium rocky tan head that diminishes gradually to a wispy film. Stringy lacing. Aroma of roast malt, rum and caramel. Full-bodied with flavors of sweet rum, oak, butterscotch and roast malt. The finish is sweet and boozy with a rum and malt aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Poured up on tap at the brewpub with a clear copper body that has gold edges and supports an off white head that leaves behind cobweb lacing. The aroma offers up malt sweetened pine hops with a light citrus hop note in there too. The taste is old school thick body resiny bitter hop goodness that brings back great memories. I get malt sweetened citrus hops that quickly give way to robust levels of pine and citrus hop resiny bitterness. Pretty nice rich brew that leans right into its resiny hop notes.
