Sample at The Daily Growler. Hazy straw color with a medium white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of grain, malt and fruit. Medium body with a subtle vinous character and notes of bready malt and wheat. The finish is wheaty with a fruity aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Dark amber pour with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, caramel and dark fruits. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, peppers and figs. The finish is malty up front with a mild peppery aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Hazy yellow-orange with a short white head, Scent is grassy and grainy. Taste is an herbal, grassy hop over a sweetish grainy malt. Not the best...rather unpleasant.

On tap at State & Lake @ the Wit, Dec. 23. 10 oz. stemmed glass for $7. Hazy brown body, with a thin lace around the edge. Smell carries light, bready malts and a slight hint of lemongrass. Taste is spritzy and malty. I think there’s a tiny bit of chile pepper as a part of the bitterness. Drinks kind of like a Belgian tripel. Subtle savory clues, like beef stock and stone fruit compote. Good umami aftertaste, with a bit of yeast around my soft palate. Alcohol is almost nowhere in the taste, but I am starting to feel my toes tinkle. Slightly exoctic, but I truly could drink this one all day.

Bottle. Brown sugar, caramel, and very light chili aroma. Deep chestnut with a large beige head. Caramel malt, herbal bitter chili flavor. No heat to speak of, just vegetal bitter pepper flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation.

From a bottle, rather sharp on the buds for a golden ale. Looks could be golden vanilla but this stuff is rather strong, more bitter apa. Same with finish

Draft at Tap House Grill, Westmont. Dark amber color with a thin but sturdy head. I smell a bit of fruit and think at once of the Nelson Sauvin hops I was introduced to recently. I now see the spice list in the description, but at the time, the only addition I could think of was maybe some lemongrass. A lingering bitter edge on the sides of my tongue. Sunny and complex hop and spice note. Some grassiness, some dried, bitter hops. Took me a while to finally notice the malt in the background: crisp like a lager, but still fully textured and sticky on the lips.
